C-Zico, its a nice photo. :D
It would be nice to see any more from other Lama operations around the world. |
Idaho was my last fire season with this machine (Denali Lama). EX Dollar hands will recognise the "Great White" parked in the background. |

A Lama helicopter in Sweden. Nordic Rotors - SE-JNA Also a nice Lama at work video. On the lama instrument panel in the bottom right corner there is a dial to the right of the instrument with the plane on it, can anyone say what this does please? https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/--...no/1162517.jpg |
It's a 'Computer'
Hi HeliStudent,
It's a circular slide ruler type of computer that surround the collective pitch indicator. With noting the outside air temperature and pressure altitude, the pilot can determine the maximum gross weight at which the outside condition will permit. you can also get from it the maximum pitch setting, actual gross weight (under hovering condition) and density altitude. I'll try to get a hold on my 35 years old training manual and get you more details. Very clever at the time. Cheers kami |
Downupside thank you very much, this is really interesting.
There is a company in Japan which flies the Lama - you can see it in the video below, do you know who they are? |
you're welcome!
It is Akagi Helicopters. Actually 2 companies are still flying the Lama: 1 at Toho Air Services and 3 at Akagi Helicopters. They are switching to B3e so Toho will stop operating next year. Akagi may keep them flying a bit more. Kami |
Kami thank you again.
I have found a photo of an Akagi Lama and it has the same green stripe as in the video - http://images2.jetphotos.net/img/1/3...1305634793.jpg There is also something I have not seen before - this Japanese Lama has something connecting the landing gear assembly to the back of the skids like a wavy piece of metal or something? Also it has two sets of mirrors in front, is this for training purposes? |
.
Some very nice pictures (among 350 and Al3) of Air-Glaciers (Swiss) Lamas :ok: : Le jeu de pales d'Air-Glaciers, par Richard Chapuis - Photos - Le Nouvelliste Online - Quotidien Valaisan . |
HeliHenri - Merci pour les photos d'Air-Glaciers. :ok:
Elle sont tres belle. back of the skids like a wavy piece of metal or something? Lama spare parts |
.
De rien HU :ok: And if I'm not mistaken, Heli-Union was in the good days the biggest civilian Lamas operator in the world ! . |
Does anyone know the rate of descent for the Lama in autorotation? I am trying to figure out how long it took Jean Boulet to come down during his world record "longest-autorotation" in 1972. Thanks.
500 Fan. |
Ah Jean Boulet - what a great man.
I will try to find information for you on this but what I can say now is that he does not have constant ROD in this flight. To start he will drop very fast and lower altitude he slow down. |
