Ok, I've had it. From now on I quit being helicopter pilot and start working as photographer. That way I might get to see all these great places and machines.
Hey "Autorotate", how about some training on the job next time you go to the Great Barrier Reef????:D

I thought flying them was one of the best jobs...but Auto, you must surely bake the cake and eat it!!!

Hedski - the 206 and 430 are owned and operated by Heli Reef on Hamilton Island. 206 is used doing tourism work whereas the 430 is a very multi role aircraft. During the daytime it is used to take pax to the Reefworld helipad where people spend the day diving at the reef and then at night it is used to transfer marine pilots out to the large ships as seen in the photos. This was a daytime transfer that would normally use the 206 but we swapped it out with the 430 so we could get the images you see.

The Heli Reef fleet, based at Hamilton Island includes, Bell 47G, R-44, Bell 206B, 206L and the 430. The 407 is a brand new one owned by Hawker Pacific, the Bell agents for Australia, PNG and NZ and Peter Crook just happened to have it there on demo so the timing worked out well.

TC - In my opinion I have the best job out there as I get to see all facets of the industry and showcase them for all to see, both the good and the bad. This is one of the good ones. :E

Have some other prints that I need to scan in and post which were shot at 2.30am in the morning showing the 430 sitting on the deck of a ship. These show the night time part of the operations.

Glad everyone enjoys them, thats the purpose of shooting them.

Autorotate: Do you mind giving away one of your secrets, ie: What sort of camera do you use?

WOW, A 407 with low skid gear and no huge Ski Basket on the side like mine has, I bet that aircraft can easily reach Vne in the cruise !

Sprocket - No problem. Here is the list of what I take with me when I go off gallavanting.

Canon EOS1V bodies x 2
Canon 18 - 35 Pro Lens
Canon 28-70 2.8L Series Lens
Canon 70-200 2.8L Series Lens
Canon 35-350 Pro Lens
Canon 100-400 Image Stabilised Lens.
Canon 540EZ Flash

* Only shoot Fuji Velvia 50 or Velvia 100 slide film

They have very good colour saturation, as seen above, and are made for the outdoors and excel in the cloudless skies.

And Yes Peter did spend a couple of hours washing and polishing his 407 before heading off the next morning to Bundaberg and then over to Armidale to show it off. Beautiful machine and only had 35hrs on the clock when it got to Hamilton Island.

dug the logbook whilst at work today and found I flew this racing gazelle once way back in Jan 86 during an IRI's course (deep joy) at Culdrose.
Great time of year to hold an IRI's course though!

Flew this for D15 (Advanced Autos) in Jul 94. Strangely that was my only trip in it despite having to go back for a refresher after a year's holdover before 706.

Remeber my time on 705 with great fondness, although I'm not sure we could ever recreate the atmosphere of the squadron even if they did do away with DFS. You can but dream...:hmm:
