RIP Lu and my sincerest condolences to all his family. |
My sincerest condolences to his family.
Rest in Peace Lu - gentle winds and blue skies. |
Message from Neville Dawson
Lu - You were the source of many laugh's and enjoyment on Rotorheads with your constant debates with everyone about everything. We spoke a couple of times about the model helicopters you were distributing and I found you to be an entertaining character. As you read Rotorheads from your place high above, rest assured there are many here with a lump in their throat upon hearing of your passing. God Speed Lu and you will never be forgotten. Ned |
I never knew Lu, as I only read a few of his posts. But through the lines of many rotorheads, I can see the scale of this sad loss and how very special he was.
My deepest condolences to his family and friends. Jure |
Well, I'm not a flyer, but I've been reading Lu for a good few years.
He was one of of those damn the torpedoes people who called things as he saw them and was 100%, no apologies, no B$ exactly what he was. Not too many left like him, more's the pity. Respects |
Very sorry to know that both aviation, and his family have lost a very remarkable and capable man. Cheerio old chap, and deepest sympathies to his family and friends.
I hope that when my time comes, I'll have achieved as much and made as many friends. G |
Farewell and Godspeed Lu. I'll miss your insightful thoughts about rotor system dynamics and helicopter control systems. I'm glad i had the opportunity to discuss engineering with one of the true greats in rotorcraft history.

:( Lu touched so many people scattered around this world.
I was one, his passing saddens me. I never met him. I never spoke to him. We exchanged letters/thoughts through the ether. His passing saddens me. My regards to his family. As hard as it is, sometimes this is the easy stage. respect |
RIP. Lu.
RIP Lu.
I read lots of his posts , seemed to be an educated man with a strong opinion and evidently lots of friends. He will be missed , my condolances to Lyne and family. Chester |
Lynne,
Your Dad knew so much !! Always an insightful, authoritative source of information. RIP, I'll miss reading you Lu. Kindest Regards, NEO. |
RIP Lu I hope you have a good broadband connection where you are now
This rotorhead is going to miss you and your discussions a lot. I hope your family take some comfort from the universal respect that has been shown for you by your cyber friends here on pprune. Mods maybe you could compile a thread of his prodigious input to Rotorheads? His threads were sometimes a little off track but they were always well reasoned, thought provoking and they brought out some of the best responses that this forum has to offer. Blue skies Lu Wunper |
Rest in Peace Lu, wishing you gentle winds and blue skies.
My condolences to his family. Finalchecksplease |
Certainly will miss the posts from , as he said Lu Zuckerman with one N
|
RIP Lu
Your expertise is unsurpassed. Will miss your posts ... :(
|
I was sad to here this news today. As someone has noted, this seems odd to have feelings for a person I never met. Lu pushed for aviation safety without concern for the usual "shoot the messenger" attacks that always came his way. I admired and supported his quest for aviation safety. Thanks Lu, we will miss you.
|
RIP Lu,
I will miss the banter between you and nick, I am sure you can write to god about a thing or two though! |
My condolences to his family.
I always looked forward to reading Lu's posts, as I always learned from them. Thank you Lu. |
RIP Lu
As with many other PPruners, I never met Lu, but as all have said, there was always something to learn from one of his posts. We will all miss him. :( bondu |
The best way to judge what type of a person someone is or was is to see what other people say about that person.
Lu was obviously well loved and well respected by everyone here at PPRUNE, He will be missed. For Lyne and Lu's family take you can really feel proud of who Lu Zuckerman was. R.I.P Lu my thought are with you and your family. |
One of Rotorheads characters, he will be sorely missed. Lu, where ever you are, fly safe.
MG :( |
My condolences to the Zuckerman family. Never met, or talked to your Dad, but always enjoyed his informative, and often "colourfull" exchanges with the other ppruners! He will be sorely missed.
Kind regards BigMike |
My condolences. What a knowledgeable and thoughtful man, who has touched so many.

I just heard the news, my condolences and prayers to the Zuckerman family. Lu will be greatly missed here at PPrune, and I will miss him. Lu's expert posts and exchanges often caused me to consider topics more thoroughly and deeply. I always gained a far better understanding as a result, and for this I will always be grateful.
Thanks Lu, I will miss you. |
Lu was one contributor to this forum who we actually missed during his occasional visits to the ‘sin bin.’
This forum will never be quite the same without your input. Rest in Peace Lu. TeeS |
If someone has details relating to the arrangements, I will arrange to send a flower arrangement on behalf of all members of PPrune.
Please PM me or email me at [email protected] if you have the details. |
R.I.P.
My sincere prayers go to Lu's family.

An era has passed. From his first post on this forum the words of Lu came from someone I thought I knew. His legacy will remain with me, never give up or at least, go down fighting.
Goodbye Lu. |
God speed Lu,
you will be sorely missed in this forum. CM |
A great loss to aviation, especially rotary, and to this Forum.
But nothing like the loss to his family, to whom great condolences and prayers go. RIP Lu. (with one "n") |
Do not be saddened by the passing of a great man, celebrate his achievements that touched so many, and remember all those happy times with affection.
I would like to think of LU as having ascended to the highest FL possible, and is now looking down upon us all, smiling from the skies he adored. |
Very sorry to hear the sad news.
See you at the great heliport in the sky, Lu. :( I/C |
I offer my condolences and best wishes to the Zuckerman family. Lu will be missed.
|
That is very sad. I enjoyed reading his posts. Lu was always willing to give an opinion or answer a question . Lu was never afraid to stand behind his convictions; being annonymous was not his style.
The forum has not been the same. Best wishes to the family. |
Very sad indeed.
Never had the chance to meet in person, but enjoyed and appreciated very much the e-conversation. RIP Lu Sincere condoleances to Lyne and the family. D3 |
Lyne,
Your old man was an opinionated old bugger but always a gentleman and especially intelligent. He really made a lot of us think a lot harder about the machines we fly. RIP Lu. Thou shall be missed. Steve |
Well, we’ve lost a friend and seen the end of an era - Lu’s style was probably unique, certainly inimitable. Lu described himself as an iconoclast, and he was. He enjoyed attacking cherished beliefs and/or institutions, and did so with great enthusiasm, even when in a minority of one. There were times when his approach provoked forthright responses but, as regulars will know, he loved provoking strong responses and thrived on them. Lu had no regard for the laws of libel, and there were times years ago when he drove me to distraction. I tried pleas, threats, on forum, off forum - all were equally ineffective. Lu was unstoppable at full steam; he stuck to his guns and fought on undeterred. I can't remember the exact number, but I think it reached 17 warnings before I was eventually forced, very reluctantly, to send him to the sin bin to cool off. When time had passed to allow Lu back, he returned with his dignity intact - no apology or undertaking demanded, and none offered! Link Lu had very strong (and usually very controversial ;) ) views on many aviation topics. He'd worked in the Defence and Aerospace industries for over forty years in various engineering capacities on helicopters, missiles, ships, manned spacecraft, satellites and aircraft. He’d been a Reliability Maintainability and Systems Safety Engineer since 1968, and in 1978 became a technical consultant in those areas, on assignments in the United States, Canada and Europe, working on military and commercial aircraft, helicopters and an orbital space station. He was one of life's characters - nothing bland about Lu! The genuine concern expressed here when we heard about his illness a few months ago was amazing – friends and debating adversaries alike were as one in hoping and praying he’d win the fight. I spoke to Lu in hospital and know the messages from his friends here meant a lot to him. He was going through a rough course of treatment, but approaching it with his fighting spirit which was so familiar to us. Although we know the chances of winning against that terrible disease are rarely good, Lu was such a fighter it was almost unthinkable that he wouldn’t win. He seemed indestructible. Sadly, after a very brave fight, Lu eventually succumbed and passed away surrounded by his family. They have lost a much-loved husband and father; we’ve lost a popular and respected friend. Rotorheads is truly a community and, although most of us have never met and probably never will, we’re friends despite often being separated by thousands of miles. I hope Lu's family will find some comfort at this sad time from seeing the respect in which Lu was held by his friends here. God Bless you Lu. You were one of us. We’ll miss you. Heliport |
To Lyne:
What would be really great is if you could post, or at least provide a link to, your favorite photo of Lu. I was thinking about him during my lunchtime bike ride today and realized that I have never seen an image of him. It would be nice to attach a face to a name. Thanks, Dave Blevins USA |
Very nicely said, Heliport
As a mod on one of the other sites, i have read everyones sentiments on the passing of mr zuckerman here and hope the members of the forum i'm most involved in will join me in sending our condolences to his family and to all his friends here on rotorheads.. RIP, sir... |
Sad to hear it, my condolences Lyne, to you and your family. The forum will be a quieter place, missing Lu already...
