Looking at this thread this coulor blind thing seems to be a big issue. I'm going for my JAR PPL. I think i'm colour blind. Can anyone tell me in plain english what problems i might have with the class 2 medical and if i'm colour blind can i get a JAR PPL. |

I had my medical for the same on 15 January, don't worry about it. If you're colour blind you get a limitation on your licence which limits you to "VFR within the state" - in other words, you can only fly in daylight in Ireland. You can get this lifted if you pass an alternative test called an "airport lights test" (you'll see this referred to on the form for the medical). I've asked here what exactly this test is, but no luck with a response. I'd like to know a little bit about it before approaching the IAA. Do post how you get on. |

It is very easy, You must be colour safe. How ist it possible to become colour safe?? 1. Pass the ishihara plates 2. pass an alternate colour vision test First you begin with the plates. If you are not be able to read those charts correctly you need to do an alternate test. alternate test valid for JAA also FAA 1. anomaloscope test: ( 1 circel is half red/green. with a turning knob. you need to match the circel into 1 complete colour by turning the knob.) if your matching range falls within the limit you pass. 2. lantern test (1): at a distance of +- 4/5 meter you need to indentify little illuminated leds. you are sitting in a dark room. the leds can be red/green/white. In all different ways (red--green)(red--red)(green--white). you pass if you indentify all lights correct. 3. lantern test (2): at a distance of +-4 meters you need to indentify illuminated flashing lights. You are whatching to a computer monitor. In the center of the screen you will see a flashing light for 1/10 second. it can be red, green, blue, yellow, or orange. the light signal has got size of 0,5 cm so it is a verry small size. indentify them all correct and you pass. These are the only tests that are valid for a JAA medical. good luck |

no I haven't got round to it yet mate, I'm having a FAA class1 done in march when I go to houston to see if I can pass that. Any info you can give me on france would be great!! PM or i can give you me email if you prefer. Good luck for march! |

What is difference between france and holland. Iam getting interested. Iam thinking to go to states 2 but the only thing that is stopping me is a green card. Can you tell me what your plans are ?? thanks, chris |

In your previois thread you said that you can get the results destroyed if you fail, does this mean you can do the test again until you pass? Do you know if it is a Dutch law that allows them to be destroyed or one from the JAA? |

Well I said destroy but that is not 100 % true.
If you fail the test they will not destroy it. They will keep it in the file. If you say nothing they will send your test results to the JAA. the only thing you must do is tell them that they must not send your results to JAA. That is private. They must honor your demand. They will keep it in there own file but JAA will not know about it. So you can retest yourself a few times but retest yourself at another AMC. |

Iīd like to know any link with a database of either beynes, or falant test practitioners worldwide. As many here, I have color deficiency reflected in a failed ishihara, but then confronted with other tests which I donīt know the names, only that one of them consists of fifteen barrels that you have to organize by the shade of color, and the other of one colored dot that you have to match with one of four placed around the first, with very-like shades. I live in latin america and thatīs why I want to know where is the closer lantern test, so go there and once and for all see if Iīm fit. Although I have the color deficiency I believe I have what the FAA says "perception of those colors necessary for a safe performance flying", well I guess a lot do!... but you know I want to have the confirmation of that, because my lifetime goal is to fly for a living, having the best job in the world!!! Thanks I forgot to say: I passed the other two tests flawlessly. |

The test where you organise the colours is Farnsworth D15 or D100 (depending on how many colours you have to arrange) and the colou dot to match with the other 4 dots is called the city test.
There is no database for lantern tests that I know of. Usually you can contact your aviation authority and they will tell you where they are. |

Just got back from Cologne and I passed the Beynes Lantern test!They test you in a much easier way than at LGW, first they show you the colours and say what they are then you just have you just have to repeat them. Plus it's in the dark! Anyone know now if this would be valid in Spain or would I have to do it again!!??!!
