Landing a Plane on a Helipad
 

Well, it wasn't easy, but it was impressive. Could you not just wait until there was a 50kt wind, and then the plane could almost hover

That was interesting to watch. The most interesting thing about it to me is one of the guys involved with preparing the airplane for this, Mike Patey. He has a video discussing what was done to the plane.

I highly recommend checking out his YouTube content, he and his twin brother Mark build/modify/fly some very interesting aircraft. And unlike a lot of people out there they seem like genuine folks who are very enthusiastic about aviation.

I've done something very similar, when I heroically landed a helicopter on a runway. Does that count?

Interested to see how they got it back off, love the full throttle and dive approach.

Reminds me of a conversation in the Bristow bar in Lagos many years ago, between two of the Do328 pilots. One ex RAF Buccaneers, one ex USArmy Bird Dogs in Vietnam (was a frequenter here but not seen for a while now). Buc pilot - “have you flown at 600 kts at 50’?” Bird Dog pilot, after a short pause “no but I’ve flown at 50 kts at 600’!”

Looking at that video and previous images of the pad, if I’m not mistaken, they seem to have added an extra “lip” to the edge for the attempt.
That would be cheating :E

OK, please post the video of your try at it, in a similar fixed wing .... with or without the lip!

Make sure to have a 2nd camera positioned on the ground to catch the whole event.

They have put panels on the perimeter net, I think.

Looks that way to me as well. Good thing, as that's where he touched down, would have been messy without them.

20 odd years ago, flying a Supercub (the original version of the aircraft used on the Roof top stunt) I was tasked with landing at Elevington to aerotow a glider out. Seeing how wide it was, I was tempted to land across the runway, just because. Then an piece of flying advice I’d received popped into my mind “Before you do something, write the accident report in your head.”
I decided that over-running a 10’000 feet runway in a Supercub would make me look really stupid.

For what that custom build cost, they could probably have bought an old, beat-up 22 and had a fair amount of change :E
Wouldn’t have looked as dramatic though.
