plus a reasonable chop rate to ensure a quality output.
One in ten I do believe

helicrazi 20th Aug 2019 19:34

Back in my day, responses were very slow, if closing was only on 16th, you are in for a bit of a wait

DaleG94 22nd Aug 2019 11:26

From what I have read they int the email they should already be starting phase 2 of the selection, I know the final interviews aren't until the 10th of September though.

Missyver 28th Aug 2019 10:50

Has anyone heard back yet?

Thank you for your response. Is the selection day just for people who were successful in their application? I presume we will hear if we are going through to the next stage or not before 10th?

TimTooWindy 30th Aug 2019 11:37

Invites for the 10th have been issued..... or not as the case may be. Good luck to those that were successful.

helicrazi 30th Aug 2019 12:34

Good luck, been a while since I did it, but if i can help anyone out...

Chris the Robot 30th Aug 2019 12:40

Are they contacting only the successful candidates or are they sending out both invites and rejections?

Sky Sports 13th Sep 2019 16:48

Just supposing somebody was offered a place on the zero to hero scheme, does anybody know what sort of salary would be paid?
It's my guess there wouldn't be salary during training, but after graduating, what would the first officer pay be during the bonded period and would there be a deduction from pay to recoup some of the training costs?

helicrazi 13th Sep 2019 18:30

Prepare to have your pants pulled down...

Hot_LZ 14th Sep 2019 07:36

Sky Sports - yes there will be a reduced salary for the sponsored individuals. From what I heard previously it was ~35-40k. I would imagine bonding period would be in the region of 5-6 years. Upon completion of that the salary is returned to normal in line with seniority,

jeepys 14th Sep 2019 12:48

If that’s the case then that’s not a pants down deal.

helicrazi 14th Sep 2019 13:48

Say you got paid 40k for 5 years, you would lose £110k in salary alone, forgetting pension contributions, I bet you dont start on 40k either

Usually a scheme like this you forgo the annual bonuses your colleagues will collect also

Don't worry about the bonuses, only the important people get those so nobody @ the coalface chez Bristow.

Special 25 14th Sep 2019 19:46

Helicrazy - Everything you write seems to be negative. Below is your quote from another thread earlier this week

The biggest crisis in this industry is the one being ignored - the lack of pilots, lack of new pilots entering the industry

Yet, here is a company actually addressing your concerns, but you still don't seem to think that £40,000 is enough for a junior co-pilot fresh out of training. I would say that there are plenty of onshore charter work or Flying Instructors who would love this start into the industry. Maybe 30% of Bristow pilots have come through similar sponsored HP courses and they all seem happy enough with the deal??

What planet do you live on?

jeepys 14th Sep 2019 22:24

Helicrazi,

how much money do you think it costs to get a EASA cpl(h), I.R, MCC, and a type rating on a 189 or 92? It’s certainly a lot more than £110k.

I would have happily taken a £40k salary for that level of certification, who wouldn’t apart from helicrazi?

helicrazi 15th Sep 2019 06:48

I speak from experience.

nah not negative, just watched the industry fall apart through greedy oil companies and it's very disheartening. Why would anyone join the industry with no job prospects. That's proven due the number of cpls and IR's issued over the last few years. Good on bristow for doing a sponsorship, I applaud them and what they are doing to bring people in. If I had my time again I would sign for a sponsorship again. The salary sacrifice is worth the job guarantee.

I think I've been misunderstood, I'm championing payrises, things turning around, oil companies getting their karma when they cant crew change and new blood in the industry!

Im not sure I said I wouldn't, I would gladly have taken 40, I barely got 30 and had to contribute with a payment towards it. Self funders at the time were getting 50.

Correct, alot more than 110, but we dont count the 189 or 92 type rating do we, as thars provided by the operator. I'm maybe out of date with my numbers but cpl and ir around 120k?

jeepys 15th Sep 2019 07:17

120k is probably about right so a 40k salary for 6 years is also about right isn’t it?
They are basically giving you a loan for 6 years but the best part is that if they make you redundant during that time then loan is wiped out.
It’s a no brainer to be in such a position whereby you either have security for 6 years or the remainder of a loan wiped out.
With the 189/92, MCC type rating I was eluding to the fact that they will be investing a lot more than 120k in you.

helicrazi 15th Sep 2019 07:40

I whole heartedly agree!

My comment regarding the £110k salary drop was one of fact, doesn't change the fact I would take the sponsorship!

RUCAWO 16th Sep 2019 20:30

One of my former ATC cadets has been awarded one of the four cadetships, to say he is delighted would be an understatement, finished university a couple of months ago with a masters in aeronautical engineering this really is a dream opportunity for him.

Bravo73 30th Sep 2019 12:11

I don’t find it ‘incredible’ at all, unfortunately for you. Bristow have gone into partnership with Helicentre and so any Helicentre students, either past or current, will be the most ‘known quantity’. ie the lowest risk of not completing the training.

For every Helicentre student who got a positive report, I imagine that there were plenty who were also deemed ‘thanks but no, thanks’.

Flyingpie 1st Oct 2019 06:01

It was always going to be that way, smoke & mirrors
like all the marketing they do. Congrats to the few that made it through regardless, an amazing opportunity for them in this current climate.

212man 1st Oct 2019 13:21

I thought this thread was about the full sponsorship scheme, but the last few posts seem to refer to the individual that won the IR course.

SpindleBob 1st Oct 2019 18:21

In respect of the full sponsorship scheme, I know that they have selected four cadets for the advertised Integrated CPL(H)/IR course. They start later this month.

Amazing to see these starting again and hope there will be more.

TimTooWindy 11th Oct 2019 06:18

How many won the IR Sponsorship only?.

Hot_LZ 11th Oct 2019 09:54

2, training at Castle Air right now.

He has a masters in Aero Eng and has gone into O&G. What a sad waste of talent - but as long as he’s happy.....0
