May depend on what you want to do with the winner. Fly a lot, tour, or own and operate a "classic car"?

I heard a stat on the A2 of 1hr flying = 5hrs maintenance which might give you a clue on costs.

Since the subject came up.
Can't decide between a 206 and a 76. Help appreciated.:E

Probably cheaper to purchase an S76A right now. Plus with all of them being cannibalized, they will be cheap to operate forever.

ericferret 26th Mar 2017 17:21

I always remember a friend of mine saying "I won't hear a bad word said about the S76, the overtime is paying my mortgage"!!!!!

I somehow doubt that the S76 will ever be cheap to operate. Anything with twin engines costs and labour isn't cheap. Really down to how deep your pockets are.

There will no doubt be some cheap(ish) Lama's on the market in the next few years.
If I could afford one I would. Very reliable.

Some 47 parts are hard to find or very expensive or both.

I'm getting back into this aviation lark after a long layoff and will only want to tour and operate as a classic.Used to have an Enstrom then did fixed wing so I could go for a 182 I suppose......
Anything interesting really.Enstrom FX could be a contender.

We've already done that one (well, R66 vs. 205). :E

F28, why not try a couple out for the cost of a trial flight. There are marginally more 47s to do this on in the UK, or even have a weekend away in Europe where they may be more lama to do so.

SASless 28th Mar 2017 02:42

Get a nice Long Ranger or 407 and be done with it.

Bell 47 or lama, huh? What are your criterias ?

"-ugly

End of list" ?

47fan 31st Mar 2017 08:39

Why not a 47

28A. The 47 is a good machine. I have 2 at he moment and am happy to help with advice !!

Mike Flynn 31st Mar 2017 21:41

I agree re the 47.

The only helicopter where you can do an auto, pull collective and still do a 180.

Unlike the Bell 206 where you can do a full 360.

and where is JCE these days?

enstrompilot 12th Apr 2017 07:47

Al2 ?

Why lama ? Alouette 2, either 313b or 318 form, a lighter weight lower cost option

Maint not as rumoured, most parts make tbo, annual maintenance and 50hr/ 6 month check

Al2 313b now annex 2 so maint regs slightly easier

Pay 80k for 313, may 120k for 318c both in nice nick with say >700 hrs to Tbo on main parts
