Hi folks,

A while ago I have moved to Europe due to family reasons, and of course I've quit the job I had then... I've hit the books, studied hard and got the conversion done - all that took me nearly a year to complete (and of course it's been pretty tough on the wallet...)

Since then I've had a few casual jobs, short time contracts, but nothing substantial. I have networked, sent out resumes, rang many a chief pilot, all to no avail. Now I'm thinking about moving back overseas (a move wifey wouldn't like too much though…)

Is this just the current economical situation here in Europe? Is the market really that saturated with pilots with around about 2000 hours? Or am I just doing something horribly wrong…

no I don't hold an IR, unfortunately... I have completed the ATPL/IR theory, but haven't been able to finance the rating so far.

I'm afraid I'm just a plain old VFR driver with some instruction time on my resume, though I don't hold an FI rating here in Europe. I have around 2000 hrs in various roles, charter, aerial work, tourism, instructing, and a few fire seasons in a single as a surveillance ship in Oz.

You don't say where you were working previously or where in Europe you are now looking but in the UK you will find it very difficult to get any kind of flyng job without either IR, ME or FI ratings. A little bit of research beforehand is never a bad thing and it has been that way in UK for sometime.

The Met have just advertised for a police helicopter pilot:

It should be quite an attractive job, although the requirements are quite specific too. All those police pilots who have kept their IRs current form a queue.

Presumably, they will organise/pay for the type rating for the EC145

The comments about post 2014 are interesting re: a new agency i.e.NPAS.

Any bets as to whether the Met boys will be paid less or everyone else will be paid more..........

Why would they rate you on the EC155?

If you click on the link in my thread it goes to a page that then has an "apply now" link on it (via the flight global website)

The 'apply now' button redirects you to the Met Police careers website where there is no reference to the pilot position.

I have spoken to the MPS careers people who said that the vacancy has been published too early on Flightglobal and will not appear on the Met Police careers website for a few days yet.

In short - be patient and keep checking at www.metpolicecareers.co.uk

I am in the same situation. I moved to Europe (Denmark) for the wife. I did the ATPL, and CPL conversion. Not wanting to go through the IR yet. Where are you from. Do you have an FAA CPL. There are options.

Helicopter Jobs - India
 

This post is to inform all aspiring helicopter pilots in India........

Please be very careful and not get carried away by the Helicopter industry scene as being depicted by a few helicopter schools on their websites advertising for overseas training in USA / Canada / Europe / Australia, with a possibility of immediate job due to shortage of heli-pilots in India.

the industry is in downtrend, with absolutely no opening for fresh low time pilots. The industry is getting experienced pilots coming from the AAC / IAF / Navy (Army Aviation Core / Air Force / Navy).
So unless you are 100% assured of a job or are being sponsored, do not go ahead with a CHPL license at this stage by spending ~60,000 USD unless you have loads of cash to spare.

Pls also note that you do not get R22 endorsment in Indian CHPL, so pls ensure 5 hrs + skill test(45 min each day/Night) on Schweiser / R44 / or a turbine which is registered in India. pls ensure that you X-country time of 10 hrs is on flights with radial distance of min 100 NM.

Once again, the scenario as being depicted by some agencies which are sending students abroad for helicopter training is not true and is misleading.

please also note that unless you have 100 hrs PIC on type, you can not perform single pilot ops in India. In addition, you need 500 hrs PIC to qualify for special VFR, which prevails for more than 60% of the time in North/East India due to Haze/Smog.
