I need an Enstrom engineer - Lancashire.
 

My current engineer has retired - no, nothing to do with the other thread on costs. We have been happy together but the time has come. He has given me back the books and I need to find a new engineer.

I'm based in Lancashire and am aware of a couple. Steve P-R but he's in the Midlands which is a bit far and Tom Kirk who I hear is extremely busy and again not as close as my old one. Another name I have heard is Paul Harbottle(?) but I dont know him. Any recommendations gratefully received.

i know steve pr travels around the place and is one of the most experianced enstrom engineers in the uk why not call him as well

Glen burley in yorkshire also has experience on enstroms

Hallo Phil,

Just nice to see G-BDKD is still flying. Not many of the early 28s left. Yours was the first with the new 'vertical' instrument panel I seem to recall.

I sold it new in 1974 to the one time Mini Saloon race driver, Nick Cole. He based it at Lydd in those days.

Couldn't recommend SPR or Tom Kirk more ... their knowledge of the Enstrom marque is unrivalled - and the Enstrom does need type knowledge in shed loads.

Nothing wrong with the old memory! Last time I checked there were about half a dozen 28As left flying in the UK.

Oh, By the way, the little black placard at the top of the panel warns to switch the beacons off when entering cloud to avoid disorientation.:ooh:

Giving consideration to purchasing an Enstrom F28 or Shark model and would appreciate any info on engineers in the UK with particular experience on type for a pre purchase check.

Think about your decision very carefully. You will probably have to hire a full time engineer if you opt for the Enstrom. I used to work for an Enstrom dealer in the States as a mechanic. Job security!

Steve Payne-Roberts at Rugby specialises in Enstroms, good engineer & reasonably priced.

I have had 2 Enstroms and found them reliable & very reasonable to maintain & operate, why do people give such bad press to them all the time?

I purchased a 28C earlier this year. During my search I looked at H300's, Brantlys, BH47 and Robinsons. The Enstrom was the only piston helicopter that makes sense for the private owner. The factory can be a little quirky to deal with at times, but which helicopter company isn't. First of all, there are only 12 life limited parts in the machine and if you do a couple of mods, the number drops to 9. Next, since 1975 there have been only 375 accidents here in the US that involve Enstroms. Of that only 32 fatals. And these are broken down into the following groups:

Wire Strikes 4
Fuel (running out of) 4
T/R Strike 1
CFIT 6
Inadvertent IFR 4
Midair 1
MX 5
(most common was improperly maintained mags. Also 1 non-approved part)
Stupid pilot 7
(not properly conducting auto rotations most common also student pilots conducting operations not approved for)

I have been very happy with my machine so far. And before you say that the Enstrom is all I know, I learned in the H300, and have flown the BH47, R44, AS350 and BH212.

Earlier this year I went through the process of selecting a light helicopter to buy, checking out and investigating all the usual candidates.

In the end I did not buy an Enstrom, but I was very impressed. They appear to be well engineered, safe, nice handling and good value. And the enquiries I made at the factory were all dealt with reassuringly.

Certainly, if I wanted a turbine, I'd be very keen on the 480B.

Of course, access to relable servicing is paramount.

Can thouroughly recommend Tom Kirk, he looks after my 280UK

i have had a 28A,28c 280f ,280fx and 2 x480s in the uk i found them to be good reliable ships

in the uk you have with experience on enstroms
