Squirrel Flying School

I am looking for a flying school in the London/SE area to complete a PPL(H) on the AS350 Squirrel. Anyone got any good tips?

Nothing useful to add I am afraid - but it looks like the typo monkey has got you. Try a an AS350 instead! ;)

What would the insurance say for doing a whole PPL on the squirrel?

Pandalet 23rd Oct 2007 13:52

I believe Heli-Air at Denham could do a PPL on a squirrel. Why a squirrel, out of interest? If you're planning to buy one anyway, you could always buy it then get trained in your own aircraft (which would be much cheaper, one would imagine).

I've been trying to buy a decent one for ages.........not as easy as it may seem :ugh:

The reason: ex-mil with some Squirrel time and want to keep it up rather than switch to a Robinson!

Now I think about it, although not in the south east - Sky Helicopters in Mallorca (Son Bonet) are a big operator of the AS350 B3; and offer training.

Given the impending Winter I can thoroughly recommend some time in Mallorca for your training - I went for a fortnight during mine and the much improved weather meant you could fly when you wanted. I did 3 hours a day as opposed to 3 a month in the UK!!

A return Easyjet flight was around £100 and you can rent an apartment out of season for a few hundred euro's a week!

Just a thought, I know it might not fit in with your circumstances.

So what are the hourly rates for lets say a B2 or B3 there in the UK? I know lots of Europeans come to South Africa because it is so much cheaper to do your training here. We operate a B3 at approximately US$1,100 an hour and that's expensive compared to the rest. So just out of interest what do they charge for it in Europe?

London Helicopters @ Redhill

Ask to speak to Dom or Marcus :ok:

HeliCraig 23rd Oct 2007 15:14

Not sure on the rates Choppie, but a B206 is approx 880USD, and a A109 is around 2400USD per hour at my local haunt! So I would guess that a AS350 would be somewhere in the middle maybe?

Is your training JAA compliant? If so, I can see why people would come down to you to do it!

Learning to hover in a AS350............enjoy :ok:

Flinginwings is spot on!

Contact London Helicopters at Redhill and speak with Dom or Marcus..

They do AS350 Ratings on a regular basis.
