Helicopter crashes on golf course
A helicopter has crashed on part of a golf course in Derbyshire. The private aircraft came down on Ormonde Fields Golf Club near the A610 in Codnor at about 1535 BST on Tuesday. The 65-year-old pilot, who lives locally, walked away from the crash and has been taken to the Derbyshire Royal Infirmary with slight injuries. Police, fire service and paramedics were called to the scene and the area around the craft was cordoned off. There may be delays on nearby roads. Initial inquiries will be carried out by Derbyshire Police but an investigation into the circumstances of the incident will be carried out by the Air Accidents Investigation Bureau. BBC DERBY |
BBC News have also just released a photo to go along with the story above:
http://newsimg.bbc.co.uk/media/image...icopter203.jpg A quick search for *BPN on G-INFO produced a (relatively) locally based aircraft: G-BBPN, ENSTROM F-28A-UK Glad to hear that there were no serious injuries. |
looks like he is only a few hundred yards from home if thats the one not seen it flying about i only live 3 air mins away hope he is ok

levo,
I don't mean to sound like a tw@t, but your posts would be much easier to read if you used punctuation. |
unfortunate
You think an R22 is worse? Don't like Enstroms, never did. A horrible aircraft. Hope all is well with the pilot. As far as I know they call the Enstrom the widow maker...anyone out there to confirm this?
|
Knew (and Flew occasionally) G-BBPN in the early 1980's when it was used as a training aircraft Oxford Air Training School CSE Oxford.. sad to see a classic come to grief.
|
no one has ever died in a enstrom in the uk
so not many widows made in the uk but the r 22/44 that may be another question |
alouette
Alouette , your confused, your refering to the R22!!!
no one ever been killed in a Enstrom in UK !!!! |
The Enstrom thingy
Well, then I stand corrected,...still the guy was lucky. All said.:)
|
Sorry, but when I look at the maths of ratio to machines used Robbo/Enstrom, I think you have more chance of having a bad moment in an Enstrom. Thats the maths viewpoint. If Enstroms were as numerous as Robbo's there would be a lot more headlines going on the current ratios, and the beauty of numbers are, they dont lie.
The flying viewpoint I can't give, only having flown Robbo's. So all Robby haters, feel free to tear me to shreds based on this admission. |
Anyway, amongst the "I love Robbos/I hate Enstroms" chatter I wish the pilot well.
(P.S. Us ATCOs hate you both.... anything with a ground speed of less than 90 kts is pants!!!!) TAKEs COVER!!!! |
Like we ever tell you when we're in your control zone's anyways:}
(Joke JOKE, okay! We're not microlight pilots fer gawds sake!) |
Glad the pilot's OK.
Re:Robbie vs Enstrom. I have flown both types quite a bit. Both are quite capable of catching one out. The big drawback of the Enstrom is the lack of power coupled to a high inertia rotor system. This particular failing will catch up with you while manouvering near the ground resulting in low energy crashes if your not careful. Generally the people walk away from an Enstrom crash. On the positive side they dont get carb ice and dont mast bump. Do I feel safer in one or other? Not really but I prefer the 28A to an R22. It looks like BBPN is scrap. A great shame. I hope if any of it is OK for salvage it will be saved. Some 28A bits are getting hard to get now. Up & Away, you are right. The 28A is a classic. One that seems to be getting very rare now. We've lost 2 in the last 3 years. (The last one ran out of fuel :ugh:) Down to about a dozen in the UK now. edit (9 that will fly) |
