Helicopter down in Scotland: December 2005
BBC Report
Two people have died in a helicopter crash in Perthshire. The helicopter is believed to have come down near Coupar Angus at 1015 GMT. Air accident investigators are heading to the scene and diversions are in place. |
Any Info on local WX conditions or what stage of flight the A/C was at when it crashed?

very sad news indeed..
this helo was based at my local airport and its sad to know I wont be seeing it or its occupants again. RIP to those involved. |
All of us here at Cumbernauld are feeling very sad and shocked at the moment. So all I'll say is R.I.P chaps and that this isn't the time for any speculation and can I ask that no-one reveals identities until it is done officially.
:( :( |
Echoing all sentiments - it's a tragic event at any time, but especially so at this time of year.
One question - the pic from the BBC has been picked up off G-INFO: should this be permitted or encouraged? |
I just heard about this when I phoned to book a flight for Friday. I know this aircraft - although I haven't flown in it myself, it was a familiar sight around the airfield. Don't know the identities yet, but I'm sure I will have spoken to the guys at some time or other.
Very shocked and upset. Condolences and RIP. Weather seems fine here (Stirling) at the moment. |

I’m shocked. A very sad day indeed.
(…..may I respectfully ask the moderator why this Scottish thread was so quickly moved, yet the GA seaplane accident in Florida remains ‘on the front page’ ?) CT |
Capt Teflon
The thread was moved here by the R&N moderators. I assume the 'GA seaplane accident' in Florida remains in R&N because it was an airline schedule flight and because 20 people were killed. A helicopter accident involving a large loss of life would stay in R&N for longer, before eventually being moved to this forum to be joined with any associated thread already running here. This is PPRuNe's helicopter forum . Heliport |
I'm surprised that the Beeb are linking straight through to the details on the G-INFO website.
Especially seeing as the Police haven't named the occupants as yet. |
Was walking the dog about a couple of miles from the site at the time. Weather was CAVOK.

IMHO, I think it fair enough that the press, having seen the registration on the wreckage at the scene, investigate further. Isn't that what 'you' would do if your mate phoned up and said, "'ere Joe, I heard a helicopter with reg G-XXX has gone down, what do you know about it?"
Do you ever wonder what G-INFO is for? If the CAA don't like the way it is used then I'm sure they will drop it. Besides, it tells us to whom the a/c is registered, not who was flying it!! RIP http://ganjataz.com/01smileys/images...edupPupils.gif SS |
Lets not get into any arguements guys!
RIP guys. TiP |
It's a horrible reminder what risks are involved with these jobs. My prayers go with the families and friends.
For the record, if I'm up next, please tear it apart, question my decisions, check the details, argue how it could have happened, work towards better understanding. I would hope something good could come out it. Matthew. |

This photo has been lifted from a pBase photo gallery of mine without my consent or contact in any way. I will ask the BBC to explain & remove the photo from their website.
It was taken in 2001, when the aircraft was based Redhill & in different ownership. One of the same series I took has been uploaded to G-INFO, but it is not the same photo. My condolences to the families & friends of the people who have lost their lives in this accident. Mike Rice UPDATE : I have had a call from the BBC reporter who used my photo, he has now removed the item from the website. I can only say sorry for any confusion the photograph I took may have caused. If I had been asked beforehand, I would not have given my permission for it to be used. |
