Aerobatics in a BO105
|
Comes up as error on page . IS this the film of the late Ziggy Hoffman putting the 105 through it's paces ?.
|
That's an amazing video...... :ok:
|
Awesome!
Jucky:ok: |
He's nucking futs:mad: :ok:
|
Would love to hear an English translation - brilliant!
|
Absolutely insane! Those inverted yawing decents were way out there. . .
Heh, and for some reason the host's groaning proved endlessly funny to the audience! |
Only one word to say about that - Ausgezeichnet!!
Those inverted yawing decents were way out there And who was the first pilot to try it ? Someone with an unresolved deathwish ? |
What happened to Ziggy Hoffman?
|
Sick Puppy
That was some seriously sick stuff.
But somewhat disturbingly comforting to watch. :oh: |
Ziggy Hoffman was killed while making a movie ( wings of the eagle ?)
|
Yup, Stefan Raab is kind of crazy. He also invented the wok world champion ship. Imagine racing down a bob sled run in a wok.
And who was the first pilot to try it ? I would like to see nick lappos comment. I have no sound on my PC, who was the pilot? |
B@st@rds here have banned videostreaming.... if anyone can point me to the original wmv file...
|
And one question. Has our moderator Heliport ever done anything similiar with his flying machine?
|
@ Rotorbee
PIC is Rainer Wilke, he is one out of three pilots in Germany with the appropriate rating (KFB (H) = Kunstflugberechtigung (Hubschrauber)) to do that kind of stuff. :ok: |
Without questions very good performed from one of the most experienced aerobatic pilots in Germany with strong military background and therefore the aerobatic experience. But now he is retired and using civil (not experimental) a/c. Despite his KFB (H) ...
EUROCOPTER FLIGHT MANUAL BO 105 CB-4/CBS-4 S E C T I O N 2 L I M I T A T I O N S 2.17.5 Prohibited Flight Maneuvers Aerobatic maneuvers are prohibited. So, how could this be? His a/c is one of the oldest civil BO 105, 30 years old. The military BO 105 (sometimes to see on airshows) are not the same as the civil version. They have strengthened airframes, gearboxes and some other modifications. Due to the rigid rotorsystem all the forces and vibrations are direct transfered to the airframe. And they do not have civil RFMs. Eurocopter abandoned the aerobatic shows with civ a/c a lot of years ago. One of the heaviest civil accidents in the last years (2003) was an ex mil pilot, trying to underfly a bridge only 1m higher than the BO 105 was. "Have often done such manoeuvers during my mil time" was his excuse. I don't understand why the german CAA (LBA) accept such questionable and normally not approved aerobatic flights or close his eyes, only to give a TV-Star an ego shoot with sensationel audience ratings (money, money, money :) ) and on the other side the CAA's are absolutely stringent and restrictive to the normal operators trying to hold their business alive. :\ It must be interesting to see the CAA reaction after an aerobatic performance by an ex fighterpilot with an civil corporate jet. And believe me, it is possible to do some impressive aerobatics with a Learjet. |
Done right with the blinders pulled down....and the Swedish nurse attending to Ali's needs....the peach snapps never even got spilled. It was on about the 6th or 7th roll when Ali opened one of the blinds that my mate realized he had a need for alternative employment. He did not get a Rolex as a tip for that his last flight in a VIP Lear out of the ME.;)

SASless; is that an insider story , cause I could't get the gist of it.

link to accident I mentioned earlier , final title of the film was firebirds at least on this side of the pond. BTW most aerobabics are in CB not CBS though I am sure the FLM has similar warnings. Oops should learn to read earlier post completly :} |
@@*##!!!!!
Damn it, I really want to see this video but like Treadigraph, I can't get the thing to play, undoubtedly due to Big Brother firewall mods. Please, please can anyone tell us how we can view this clip other than by Spunk's original link. EO |
Now what was it the MBB advertising people used to say ...Oh yes ......
" Even the birds are jealous!" :p :p :p :p :ok: try doing those moves in your 'Jetranger' ......... |
What an awsome Vid, the sound track was also VG for it showed the OTT journo type really go OVER THE TOP, lost his bottle completly total smell of broken glass:D

Rainer Wilke was recently training Chinese pilots how to do "Helibatics" at the Test Flight Academy South Africa (TFASA) in Cape Town in a Bo105CBS, one of Base 4's I believe.
He gets a banana!:ok: |
Haha... Leave it to our German friends to actuallty issue helicopter aerobatic licenses
I'm not beiing negative about it, just think its funny. Have a friend who lives in Germany, told me he had to take a 5 day course to get a fishing license to be allowed to fish ffor fun from the rivers& lakes:confused: He actually made himself a fake wheelbarrow license and told people that tehy had to have license to drive wheelbarrows, got some to belive it too.. They sure have a sense of humour those Germans:) |
Love it! Wish I had the guts to try it, but alas I would probably kill myself!
|
There's no stopping it now... On day I will get myself a BO105. There is a slight problem though, the cabin isn't wide enough for the smile I will wear. Great video, impressive pilot. :ok:
My guess is that they had some sort of prior authorization to perform the manouvres. And since they didn't crash, both the helicopter and the pilot was up to it. Maybe they have to do a major inspection afterwards. As I guess most of you noticed, the "hair" on the cap only stood up once, even while inverted spiraling downwards. So IMHO they probably wasn't putting that much stress on the helicopter. The sounds eminating from the tv-guy is easy to understand from someone not used to aerobatics, no matter how mild they are. /2Beers |
SUrprising they had the co pilot controls installed . Last thing you want is the passenger to panic and grap the cyclic. I am sure that even during the extreme manouevres the MMI stayed in the green. The scariest one i saw on a film was the 105 diving straight down while rotating the aircraft around the mast .

105
Can you post it again?? I get an error page..
|
I have a video of that accident Widgeon, not very pretty at all...you can only agree with the report.

PIC is Rainer Wilke, he is one out of three pilots in Germany with the appropriate rating (KFB (H) = Kunstflugberechtigung (Hubschrauber)) to do that kind of stuff. Leave it to our German friends to actuallity issue helicopter aerobatic licenses But guys... ;) ;) ;) 1. §81 LuftPersV is a general paragraph, relevant to gliders, planes and helicopters. There are no differencies in this paragraph between gliders or helicopters. 2. There are no implementing provisions specifiying "helibatics" or aerobatic licensies (helicopters) in the german law, in contrast to gliders or planes. 3. Because there are no civil helicopters in Germany, approved and certified to do aerobatics, you couldn't fly the minimum of 5 training hours (according to §81 LuftPersV, necessary to all glider, plane and helicopter aerobatic licensies), despite the fact that you don't know what to train and to teach (lack of implementing provisions) and therefore you couldn't get the aerobatic ticket. 4. Therefore nobody knows how the 3 pilots got their KFB's. It's a kind of accolade performed by nobody wants to know (and now nobody wants to remember) in the german CAA. 5. As i wrote before, that kind of personally licence couldn't be used on non aerobatic a/c, means on civil certified helicopters. 6. Mr. Wilke is a very good pilot but now he is a retiree and i'm not sure, if the thing he is turning is good to the helicopter business. BTW The problem on "helibatics" is not the airframe or the main rotor on BO 105, it's the tailrotor and especially the engineering mechanics of the tailrotor. SUrprising they had the co pilot controls installed ... :} :yuk: :\ :ugh: :{ If it would be possible to get a new "helibatics" ticket from the CAA i'm sure this would be a big business, because BO 105 are so cheap in the moment on the market and the interest in helibatics seems to be growing ;) Interested? In may the german army will sold 10 BO 105 M (military version) to junk prices. (but it's impossible to register the ships civil in the JAA world) |
As an experienced BO105 pilot, the capabilities of the aircraft do not surprise me, although I have to say that I don't believe I *ever* moved the cyclic as much as Rainer does in that video clip. Then again I flew a different model (CB-4) than he. Even so, I've always been amazed that the 105 can do that inverted-pedal-turning bit. Makes you wonder if that MD-600N ENG pilot in Miami, Florida was doing something similar (intentionally or not) when his tailboom got sliced off. Aren't the slow rolls amazing? Just cyclic to the left and around she goes! Also, I was amused that Rainer kept up a very matter-of-fact (sounding) intercom patter during the ride. ...Just another trip-around-the-patch for him, I'd imagine. "Yah, here vee go...outzide loop from zee hover wiss two pedal turnss at zee bottom...ziss is fun, yess?"
It is astounding to me that the duals were in! If I were going to do that kind of stuff, I'd not only forbid the duals, but I'd want my passenger's arms strapped under the seatbelts as well. And they ostensibly could do this with up to four pax onboard? Good Lord, can you imagine how much barf there'd be to clean up? An amazing video. An amazing aircraft. |
Bump for all those people who don't know what all those little page numbers at the top and bottom of this page mean. Well, that one guy.
|
Spinwing,
Here's the sticker :D http://www.helicopterservice.com.au/...ticker%202.jpg (edited for a better image scan: I think!) |
Thanks very much John ...
:ok: :ok: :ok: |
Amazing BO-105 Aerobatics Video
|
Ned,
This has been around for ages .... AND been talked about here before! Cheers :oh: |
Sorry didnt know that, only just came across it. :ooh:
|
Ned
I for one hadn't seen it, so thanks for the intro... Hell of a first solo!
|
First solol
Yeah, that was my mate Danny. Can you beleive he decided it wasn't for him after that flight and now works in a fish & chip shop?
