The Bell 206 designed in the mid sixties is still an eye catcher even forty years on but the Bell triple deuce must take the prize.

Best Looker of All Time

The Heavy Lift Helicopters CH-53D "Fire Stallion". Pictures to follow from home.

In my view all helicopters are ugly, it is the job they do that makes them beautiful! it's horses for courses, but who could ever think the MD902 is good looking. It has the appearance of a brick with a stick stuck in the arse end. At least Sikorsky and Agusta try to make their machines look sleek! It is just a shame about the whirly bit on top breaking up a sleek design!!

Best looking: Eurocopter AS365N3 (before it put on a few pounds and became the EC155...) or Sikorsky S-67

Worst looking: Schweizer 333 or Bell YAH-63 ("Even uglier than the Apache...!")

Most timeless appeal: CH-46/47 family

Michael,

Two nice pics but the first one is better looking, by far! What's more, it's being flown so much better... Shame about the pilot in the LH seat, he really spoils the shot.. :p

P.S. Can you confirm when and where those two shots were taken?

rotorpol 5th Mar 2005 14:34

My nomination goes to the ec135.
IŽd accept the ec155 though.:ok:

Beautiful

Must be sad but the venerable Bell 47 gets my vote everytime. Bell 212 comes a close second....Picking the ugly ducklings are easy-stand up and take a bow WAH 64 and Puma, yeuch!!!

My favorites are

EC135 :ok:
Bell 212

Yeah, but that one's a model. Looks like Vario's 5' carbon model with the flybar-less head. Still a thing of beauty though. (I have a half-completed Century shell in my garage with Vario mechanics.)

Re the Hokum: I saw one do a display at Farnborough in 96/97. Amazing thing to watch. Like a bumblebee flitting around a lavendar bush.

Without a doubt, the Sikorsky S52. So close to perfection, nobody ever tried to copy it.:=
