Any of you computer knowledgable types have a suggestion about this problem?

I downloaded the file showing Denis Kenyon's awesome Hughes 300 display. I works fine on the computer on which I downloaded it. I copied the file onto a CD for another pilot and when we tried it on a laptop it runs the windows media player program with the sound but no picture (just the default pattern that plays with audio cds.) At the bottom it says "search codec.server"

Have tried the help files etc but its mostly "greek to me".
It seems to me it needs some other file or something to run. Which file? Any help?

Windows will try and search for the relevant codec from the internet. So the fix will be to get on the internet with the laptop and it should find the file. I cannot say if this works for old version of windows or media player

I know it runs happilly with Windows XP, Media Player 9 and the correct codec.

As a word of warning, some PCs may not play the video smoothly due to the processing / processor required.

There are 3 versions of this file on the web from a 2.5meg file right up to a 120meg version. The 20Meg file is the one most people have been viewing.

Best thing to do is make sure the Windows Media Player and DirectX are updated on the notebook.

Use the Windows Update service at http://v4.windowsupdate.microsoft.com/ to make sure everything on the computer is up to date, specifically these two items.

Also make sure the video drivers are up to date - let me know if you need more help than that and I'll fill out the instructions a bit more.

Gazelle Crash w/Santa on Board . . .
 

As I understand, this happened a few days ago, in the original video you can hear a couple of very loud bangs before the helicopter crashes. The 4 on board were seriously hurt, as the helicopter rolled over and its passenger compartment was completly torn off.

There was a bunch of kids nearby waiting for the Santa on board the helicopter.

Far out! From what I gathered from the video, first impressions gave me a thought it mightve been retreating blade stall. Just with a sudden pitch up like that I thought maybe a sudden loss of lift at rear off disk, and then after the initial recovery, the nose spun counter clockwise before he went down, power failure maybe?
What way do the blades turn on a gazelle?
Just interested thats all.

to me it looks like the pilot got caught low and fast! Looks like he tried an emergency quickstop and something went wrong with it behind the building and therefore he wanted to get down in a hurry.
Any news on this one?

Question: Anyone knows about a guy (and hopefully a video!!) who did/does a show with a R-22 and a ultralight.
The ultra flying straight at him and he with the R-22 backwards and with smoke.

Part of the show is/was a full touchdown auto backwards! That's what I would like to get a video from!

I remember reading about this some time ago, I think in connection with EAA-Oskosh. Supposedly the fellow had about 14000 hours of which about 10000 fumigating in a R-22.

Was this guy with a display team in the US? I remember seeing a video of the airshow display involving the backward autos - but not the ultralight. They had a web-site and did airshows around the US. The team had a couple of R22s and a Hughes 300 in the pics on their web-site.


Sadly one of the pilots was killed in an unrelated accident a year or so ago. Was instructing in an R22 and the machine had an in-flight fire or something like that and both he and student perished. I don't know if the team continued or disbanded.

Maybe it was Jim Cheetham. I just saw a collection of some videos of airshows where was an editor and flys a couple of routins with the show copters (2 R22 plus 1 R44 camaraship).
However the helicopter parts on the video are rather lame....

Anyone has a video of the rearward full touch down auto business?

Cran : Interesting web site.

The video" Autorotations can be dangerous". I don't think that the accident was a botched autorotation.

I believe that its a Canadian SeaKing settling with power or maybe even VRS.
