Post Major Andre Hattingh RIP

CAPE TOWN: Chopper pilot dies in freak accident - Posted Sat, 16 Aug 2003

"An air force helicopter pilot died after he crashed his motorcycle into a fixed-wing aircraft being towed by a tractor at the Ysterplaat Air Force base, Die Burger newspaper reported on Saturday.

Major Andre Hattingh (48) was riding to work at the base outside Cape Town on Thursday morning when saw two vehicle lights approaching.

Thinking it was a car, he veered to the left and hit the tail wing of the Dakota that was being towed on to a runway by a tractor, the newspaper said.

Hattingh, an Oryx pilot, was airlifted to 2 Military Hospital in Wynberg, where he underwent emergency surgery. He died on Friday morning after suffering severe internal bleeding.

Hattingh is survived by his wife, Annelien and three sons, Joe, Koos and Andre. Joe Hattingh is also an SA Air Force pilot and was being trained as an Oryx pilot at the Bloemspruit Air Force base, Die Burger said." origin Sapa
