Oh alright then, roll of drums, fade up trumpets......
What type of flying work do you do?
Movies and TV as film pilot, aerial co-ordinator and second unit director.
What types(s) do you fly?
Mainly the usual turbine singles. Anything else that I can get my hands on from the left hand seat.
Where?
UK for the first 47 years, home is now Australia, work is where the camera is rolling.
Previous jobs?
RN '72 -'80
Started Castle Air in Cornwall '80 - '89
Started Helifilms '89 - and will probably keep at it until I can't tell which way is up.
Previous types?
A 109, Huey, 212, 412.
Military / ex-Military? (Which? What types?)
RN.
Hiller UH12E, Whirly 7(under training), Seaking, Wessex 3 (ASW), Wessex 1 and 5 (SAR). Gazelle (IRI)
How long have you been flying?
Since 1972
Hours?
6000
Most memorable flights?
All the SAR jobs (like they were yesterday),
Opening ceremony Sarajevo 1984 (wrong side of the stadium so ten percent of the world population people saw "4891 ovejaraS").
The day the tail rotor stopped going round and I had 25 mins to the nearest runway to work out how to get us on the ground.
Filming the fires of Kuwait for Werner Herzog (when we could get the oil off the lens).
The ones I co-ordinated from the ground and therefore had time to worry about:
- Mark and Ray Hanna dogfighting in a Spitfire and an ME109
- The Athens '04 boys, performing like ballerinas on speed (and that was before they got airborne!)
...... faint clapping from a small child in the eighth row.
