A helicopter pilot is recovering in hospital after a Sunday morning flight over Honeydew, west of Johannesburg, ended in a ball of flames.

Tim Bell's tiny homemade CH-7 Angel helicopter was reduced to ashes, with only bits of the frame and engine recognisable after the incident.

He suffered back and facial injuries when the aircraft lost power and snagged electricity cables. The helicopter hit the ground, flung Bell clear, and burst into flames.

Anyone here flown one? They make a R22 look positively over- engineered.
