Big helo search NE of Syd
For those not aware a large search is underway for 3 yachtees missing after their boat rolled over east of Taree last night. Current helo's include Lifesaver 4 out of Lismore, Westpac 1 out of Newcastle, CareFlight out of Goldcoast and Westmead and Childflight out of Westmead. Rumoured also is Helimed 1 from Victoria. QES on standby out of BNE. Numerouse stiff wing searching and flying top cover.
The media pictures show the yacht inverted without a keel. The were two picked up by a bulk ship in early hours of morning with assistance of a raft, strobe and beacon. One deceased in water. Missing are two females and a male.
Search conditions not good with 30 kt wind and sea state rising. Fourtunately the rescued ones had survival gear so hopefully the rest have something comparable.
Yacht rolled about 8 pm last night. Yacht home port is Melbourne.
