Westland Wasp.

Couldn’t believe my eyes! About ten minutes ago at 16.10 looked up and saw a Westland wasp over mersey estuary heading
in a northerly direction. Fantastic to see! Along with another visitor today..Queen Mary2. Any ideas about the Wasp?

it's this one, as the navy wings wasp is currently "unservicable"

They might have looked nicer if they’d ever finished the bodywork…

It is what turns out when the British try to copy a French design......known as the Alouette III.

Pretty sure it’s an evolution of the Skeeter, which predates the Alouette

Given that the P531 the prototype for the Scout/Wasp flew the year before the Alouette 3 and there are no airframe similarities you reach an interesting conclusion.
In other news the British were first to land on the moon but we are too modest to tell anyone.

I had no idea any were still flying. I do know that the Airfix kit was a damn fiddly thing to assemble. 😁

Thank you very much for your kind replies. Yes it looks as if the Wasp was heading to Ayr show. Nice long flight!

Quite a few Scouts, not sure about Wasps.

I think the only copying of the design was from a breeze block given its autorotative characteristics

As of today there are three Wasps in the air in the UK , four when Navy Wings get theirs mended....... I am just about to lift off in mine NZ3909 EX-New Zealand Navy to pick up some fuel. It uses about 500lbs an hour. We will all be at Yeovilton then onto Portland for the 60th Anniversary Celebrations, weather permitting

Watching the Scouts plummeting from the skies at Middle Wallop in the 70's was always an interesting way to pass a gash half hour.

The series Test Pilot on BBC from 1985 shows them testing the HV curve - very sporty!
