It's nothing to do with the license you hold; it’s everything to do with quality of training, personality type, mindset and sometimes plain ol’ (bad) luck.

As a non aviatior, I don’t get the hatred for this guy in here. I watch his videos and just looks to me like he enjoys life, always happy, enthusiastic, he clearly knows how to fly as we haven’t heard of any accidents caused by him. He clearly is fit and capable of passing his exams, tests and competency.
Is it because he is wealthy and doesn’t need to do this for a living? Jealousy that he is able to enjoy flying as a hobby perhaps where the majority in here have to do it to pay the bills ?
He has a large social media following and is “teaching” or should I say informing those that have no aviation background a lot of the basics. Fair enough, he’s not qualified to be flying a SAR machine in the middle of the North Sea in a cold wet windy winter but so what, he’s not pretending to be.
Personally I just don’t get the hatred for the guy in here, quite sad to be honest. He’s not harming anyone and as far as I can tell, flying safely and educating those that have zero experience with helicopters or flying (which is a positive in my books as it may get the younger generation in his following to take it up as a career)
Perhaps I’m missing something though?

What we dislike about him is that he talks rubbish about the industry that we care deeply about.
As for not harming anyone - Several of the things that he has espoused are downright dangerous and could harm people if they emulated him.

He approached me on SM a few years ago and seemed very affable until I politely pointed out some of (the many) inaccuracies in what he says and suggested that filming himself (badly) mimicking a CAT A helipad departure in SE 206 was a bad idea. After that, radio silence. A self made man that knows best….how many of those have we known?!
I truly wish him the best but I wish more that whoever signs him off would have a friendly but firm word in his ear.

I enjoyed, ‘Bank of Dave’.
The sequel, not so much.
Then I saw his videos.
I’ve not met Dave, but I’ve met ‘his’ NoK many times, as they stared down at the mortal remains of their loved one, if lucky, intact but cold, if unlucky, what my report would call, ‘disrupted’. If really unlucky, it wasn’t staring down at but looking around for.
If I was still in that role, I’d be aiming to meet Dave for a beer, so that I could really relate to his family when the time came. I’m pretty confident it would be time well spent.
I’d be planning to meet the Moloney daughter too, she looks a good bet to beat Dave to the final unmade entry in the logbook.
What filter, what common sense, what awareness or humility is missing from these people?
…and yet, I did know Eric Swaffer. A finer and more complete aviator you could not hope to meet. A true master of his craft, the man you’d want in the flight deck if you knew things would go south. Look where that got him. Proving that fate, truly, is the hunter, and fate hunts indiscriminately.
In memoriam all those lost in and to aviation. I have no god, but if they do, I hope their god is with them.

You have to think who they are aimed at, not you a seasoned professional pilot ! She is a lucky girl having her " own 369HS " and use of a 480 . It is a different world out there now ! I have seen some of her videos, the one on starting an Allison 250 seemed ok to me , but then I have only been in the air for a couple of years

A couple of years…. For those of us who’ve done a few decades, that doesn't seem a lot. May I suggest that you are at the learning, not teaching, phase of your aviation career? A few days over Mr Gann’s book might help you, or Chickenhawk, or any other recent tome on the lost art of airmanship. In fact, no, we’ll keep it simple. Just them, those two. Read them and them come back to post.
