With the US gun culture SAS I'd have thought it would be standard fit.

The OP's incident is exactly why I never left the aircraft without a guard. I usually remained in the aircraft myself- theft was the least of my worries, vandalism or sabotage (perhaps inadvertent) are possibilities.

As i understand it the aircraft was not unattended when the theft occurred. Some Neds grabbed the helmet and legged it before they could be stopped.

We parked our Puma's on the sports pitch at Wells Next to the Sea during disaster relief and all adjourned to the pub for lunch (none liquid) arriving back we found several kids sitting in the cockpit playing pilots ( not the ones we brought with us) , after that, we had a guard left with them.
