I suspect a penalty break, so is this change of heart a potential shoe-in for the BPOL perhaps, or is the M a very different platform to a Para-Public H225?

I have it on very good authority that 2 things caused this outcome, albeit they are intertwined. Firstly AH refused to honour the requirement for local UAE industry to be involved in the program. Secondly AH's behavior post the award of the contract (the word 'peacocking' was mentioned) did not go down well with the powers that be. So when the opportunity came for the UAE to fire AH, that's what happened.

In December 2021, UAE ordered 12 H225M Caracal helicopters during the French president’s visit for an estimated price of €750-€800 million.
Well, that'll screw up his 2023 sales commision and bonus!

If he was smart he got that dosh up front and the cancellation is no big deal to his "contribution" to the sale.

After the submarines, tigers, NH90 and Rafale cancellations, he's probably shorting his own defence industry.
