I’ve yet to see a time-of-day for the crash. Anyone?
According to the Battalion FB page, the crash was reported at 13:39, so one assumes it occurred reasonably soon before that.

We had two Wessex clip blades while in formation, both landed OK, biggest problem was searching for the depleted uranium balance weights that had been flung about the countryside.

Been there

As a fairly new pilot in the unit, I experienced intermeshed blades in tight formation, 2 UH-1s. Altitude was only 100 feet. Vibration was severe but both machines landed safely. Aircraft Commander was flying.

If you experience a mid-air Collision while flying a helicopter....and survive....there is no reason for you to ever buy a Lottery Ticket as you have used up all of the Luck owed you in Life in one fell swoop!

I used to work with a guy who had survived a mid air between two Lynx in a display routine - his nickname was Lucky Al

I worked with one pilot who survived two helicopter mid air collisions. One was with another heli, the other with a fixed wing.

The terrible midair at the flyover in Kuwait during the commemoration of British casualties of the first Gulf war comes to mind. A very sad day and traumatizing for all, especially the families from the UK who were present.

Interesting - I hadn't realised the circumstances and thought it was earlier, but I see now it was 1993.

The video was not pleasant to watch…I was in the air about 20 miles away when it happened.

For the Lynx mid-air, they were actually returning from an hours display routine practice and were in close echelon port S & L over when the smash happened!

I know - I’ve seen it many times, and flew Pumas.
