Subaru Bell 412EPX

Hello

I found on internet this new helicopter from Bell! Is this already in production and flying?

Is this a new version of Bell412 EPI or?
If somebody has some about it?

Tx

It's a different variant to the 412EP. The EPi and EPX are marketing names. The EPX was developed with Suburu/Fuji Heavy Industries for a Japanese military competition.

I don't know. But you can look below to see if it has been added to the EASA TCDS. It is FAA certified.

It has been 'around' for some three years. It was launched as a civil project at the Singapore Helicopter Show in 2019 as a mock up and at the Singapore Air Show in 2020 as the flying article. It also appeared at the 2020 Heli-Expo but it seems got lost in covid but now causing a stir now we are coming out the other side with orders pending in the USA.

Main plus point is that it has a better gearbox than the original (the Subaru bit).

I thought it was just a different surface coating used on the gears that enabled an increase in usable power? Could easily be wrong though.

Garmin cockpit, run dry MGB , New composite pilots doors and panels , reduction in basic weight and increase in Max weight, 150 ordered by Japanese Govt , replace Huey , 212, 412 and S-76 in Mil an Govt organisations.
Nice machine , good truck, may not have the appeal of something like a 139 but won't fall apart every 2500 hrs.

From the spec sheets provided by wrench those are astrometric screens. I've used them in the 429 and they are far superior and much more reliable than the Rogerson kraptos in the EPI.

Bell have dumped RK junk and gone full Garmin on 505, 407, 429 and 412, all interchangeable between aircraft and coming up with converter kit to fit Garmin into machines with RK stuff.

mate you sure it’s Garmin? I know for sure the the 429 is astrometric (sp) and they were looking at a retro fit solution for RK on the 412 Epi.

The EPI is a pretty good avionics fit and 4 axis autopilot is pretty well done but RK screwed the pooch with high cost and poor reliability

Bye bye, RK; hello Astronautics!

Bell finally got rid of RK, which had been a royal pain in the butt for too many years, with poor design & reliability.

Astronautics is now used in both the 412 & 429 for PFDs.

Astronautics

Yeah... they're astronautics on the 429 and 412 Astronautics. The 505 and 407 use G100NXi displays and the 525 uses the G5000.

JGSDF UH-2 flies for first time

And the Japanese UH-X which was won by Subaru / Bell to supply Bell 412EPX mil version to the Japanese Ground Self Defense Force replacing their UH-1J Hueys , their UH-2 flies for first time .

Love it !
If any of you has the RFM, I do like to have a look inside to see if the Subaru's make the good job I can imagine.
