Crab - we are on the same songsheet. When I am teaching NVG, I try to get people to understand that unless you are in some tactical environment that precludes it, you want to use all the white light you have for T/O and landing, especially if you are in a confined area or have obstacles nearby. Also useful to improve illumination on a hover reference if you are searching on camera / load lifting / hoisting etc.
