Colombian Presidential Helicopter Shot At

From the BBC

Pictures show it took some fairly big caliber rounds

Gunfire has hit a helicopter carrying the president of Colombia as it flew near the border with Venezuela.

President Iván Duque was flying toward Cúcuta in the Norte de Santander province, alongside the defence minister, interior minister and the province's governor.

A spokesman for the presidency said nobody had been hurt in the incident.

Large Caliber you say?

In the same accent used by Crocodile Dundee....."Now here's a large caliber hit!".

On the opposite side of the aircraft is a very pretty and nearly perfectly round hole with a diameter of 105MM.

In its drive for more diversity and inclusion, the US Army has admitted teething problems in allowing dyslexic sign writers to join its ranks.

The US Army fielded that training in its Field Artillery Units in its Fire Direction Centers and Battery locations with mixed results!

Just an engine removal to lighten the aircraft in preparation to be slung out from a landing site...or being cannibalized for parts.

Missing is the engine and engine Transmission and the lower sheet metal fairing to the Upper Pylon under which rests the Combining Transmission which you can barely see the Output end.

The Synchronization Shaft runs from the Combining Gearbox to the the Forward Transmission.

If something were to cause a failure between the Aft Transmission and the Forward Transmission.....the Chinook becomes the World's fastest Sausage Maker.

Preflight attention to that part of the helicopter involved at least two crew members or sometimes three....just to make sure everything was as it should be.

The photos in the BBC article are of a blue-grey VIP Blackhawk variant, and closeups of the TRDC cover which for all the world look like a component was trying to escape. Just saying. pp.

Agree, component from that antenna or whatever it is on the drive shaft, seems to have a wire attached?

Unlikely that far aft, its right above the tailwheel in a narrow section of the tail boom.

Was there an entrance hole or just exit holes?

Hello Megan: that is a formation light and it is as noted above, pretty far aft on the tunnel cover.
