I remember being a little boy in the 1980s and being excited about the Bell 400 TwinRanger prototype, what seemed to be the next evolution of the iconic JetRanger. Then I moved away from the big city and wasn't in touch with news, then the 407 arrived.

Was that not the precursor to the 427?

The 407 was a great improvement to the Long Ranger, especially compared to the original 206L we had with the C20 engine and water/methanol injection.

The exhaust from the water meth smelled sweet, but the exhaust from the 407 made my eyes water, it stung for some reason - incomplete burning of the fuel or something? No other aircraft has affected me like that.
