Heli down NSW Riverena area 31 July 2020

A man is fighting for life after his helicopter hit power lines and crashed into a sheep farm in the NSW Riverena area on Friday morning.

Police from the Murray River Police District were called to a property on Carrathool Road just after 11 am, to reports the man was trapped inside the aircraft.

The property is believed to be Steam Plains, one of the biggest sheep farms in the state, is about 35km north of Conargo, near Deniliquin.

Emergency services are on scene and working to treat the man before he can be transported to hospital.
Update:

A witness at the scene told NCA NewsWire emergency services had managed to extract the pilot, believed to be from Griffith, from the chopper, but it was not known whether he would survive the crash.

“He‘s not in a great condition,” the man said. “He’s in and out of consciousness... things are going as well as can be expected.”

The helicopter is an agricultural aircraft.
