Matt Zuccaro gone west

Just sat down at the disputer to check email, and was surprised at a message from HAI:
"Helicopter Association International (HAI) is deeply saddened to announce the passing of Matthew S. Zuccaro, the immediate past president and CEO of the association. Plans for services are at the bottom of this announcement."
Wow, he retired from HAI just a few weeks ago. I didn't know him, but had met him once, when he was a speaker at a local heli safety seminar. I was inspired to join HAI that day, even though just a low-time Private. Although I let my membership lapse just last year, as HAI is far more an industry support organization for operators and pro pilots, it seemed to me that Matt did a good job as a promoter of the rotor industry, and a strong advocate for safe operations. I'm sorry to hear of his passing, and think it's truly a shame he didn't get to enjoy his retirement.

Matt was a good guy, I had the opportunity to have dinner and or cocktails with him and Doreen, his wife, a few times in the last 5 years or so, more recently in Hawaii back in October. He was a straight shooter. It is a sad day for the industry. I will no doubt be in New York for the funeral next month.

RIP Matt.

A steadfast supporter of everything important about our industry.
He shall be missed, our thoughts and prayers go to his family.
