Unhappy S61 accident

My sincere condolences to the families and colleagues of the two crewmembers so tragically lost today. Both crewmembers died as a result of the accident.

Helicopter crash

VANCOUVER/ CKNW (AM980) -- The Transportation Safety Board's investigating the cause of a fatal helicopter crash late Thursday morning.

Rescue officials say sometime between 10 and 10:30 a Sikorsky S-61, registered in White City, Oregon, went down near Wendell Creek, south-east of Prince George.

The female co-pilot died on impact. The male pilot died en-route to Prince George General Hospital. The nationalities of the victims are not known.

The Transportation Safety Board says the helicopter was engaged in heli-logging for Oregon-based Croman Corporation.

Officials say several local helicopter companies came to help upon hearing of the crash.
