A horrific midair collision between two helicopters over southern Texas has claimed the lives of two men.
Officials say the fatalities occurred Wednesday morning while the choppers, identified as Robinson R22s, were herding deer on a sprawling ranch near Hebbronville, which is located about 160 miles south of San Antonio.
A third person was injured. One person was pronounced dead at the accident scene and the second at a hospital, reported The Associated Press.
Texas Department of Public Safety Sgt. Nathan Brandley claims the pilot of of one chopper was able to land after the crash, but two people aboard the other died.
Brandley noted that one of the two people in the helicopter that suffered no fatalities was hurt. The official also didn’t speculate on a crash cause nor did he disclose their identities.
The Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board continue to investigate.
