VIP Dog gets a Helicopter Medevac!

Rather than what seems the daily doom and gloom here is a news story that is a little more light hearted.

Traffic stopped on the George Washington Parkway near Reagan National Airport Tuesday afternoon so a medevac helicopter could land, but the patient wasn’t human — it was a very special dog.

The 6-year-old German shepherd named Kylie works for D.C. Fire and EMS as a cadaver dog, but she and her handler Sgt. Paramedic Gene Ryan travel to other places to share their expertise.

D.C. Fire and EMS spokesperson Vito Maggiolo said that on Tuesday in Northern Virginia, the dog seriously hurt one of her hind legs while helping another law enforcement agency conduct a search.

Maggiolo did not disclose the name of the agency or the reason for the search, but he said U.S. Park Police and the Arlington Fire Department sprang into action help the dog.

Full story attached below.

Good on them

I love dogs and I love helicopers ( when they aren't broken). That was a perfect story. Can I go to that fire house and play with the dog when she is back to work?

There have probably been 100’s of airlifts involving dogs and other animals, the pilots fighting wildfires around the world often end up airlifting people and I assume pets from high risk areas, I think I remember a video posted on thread here showing a family and the dog been airlifted from a wildfire area. No doubt service dogs have spent many an hour in helicopters in conflict zones.

Gordy and others that fight wildfires may have some stories to tell as well as those working with service animals.
