I reckon the crack started around that last rivet and speed evenly and rapidly in both directions parallel to the flex of the stabiliser. Perhaps a manufacturing fault caused in the drilling of the rivet hole in the stabiliser, the rivet overstressed the join, or just a faulty bit of aluminium sheet.

I’m guessing the yellow ones had already acted on earlier ASB No. 05A030 involving Dawn and an Endoscope?

80kt Speed Restriction is cancelled by implementation of a 10hr endoscopic (boroscope for the rest of the world) inspection of the whole stabiliser spar.
I tend to agree with Mitchaa, if Dawn's crack propagated that quickly to not be seen the previous day, 10 hrs may be too long.
Unless of course it was caused by 'other than flight loads'.

Presumably the new inspection is being carried out much closer to the initiation point, and at a higher resolution than the one previously in place, therefore a reduction in interval might be acceptable. However, it would be interesting to know the basis of how the new and previous inspection intervals were established.

Exclusive: New Images of Damaged Airbus H175 Helicopter Emerge
Oil and Gas People has been sent further images of the damaged H175 helicopter that resulted in North Sea operators grounding all similar aircraft. Babcock, CHC and NHV who fly the H175 acted to ground them despite Airbus only advising on a flight speed restriction.
This statement was issued by Airbus yesterday:
"Airbus Helicopters confirms it has issued a service bulletin to H175 operators calling for a temporary reduction of the maximum allowable speed of the helicopter."
"This follows the detection of a structural damage during routine inspections of the horizontal stabilizer on a customer helicopter."
"This initial service bulletin will be followed shortly by another one calling for fleet-wide inspections of the affected part. As is standard practice, these precautionary measures will be followed up by EASA-mandated airworthiness directives. We are in direct contact with our customers to minimise the impact on their operations."
The images show significant damage and Oil and Gas People would like to congratulate the operators for taking the decision to ground the helicopters despite Airbus only issuing a speed restriction.
