This Is The Helicopter Industry I Remember!

It seems a simple thing.....give a Kid a Helicopter Ride.

When you combine the "Make A Wish" folks.....it really does get to be a very special day.....and an Honor to be a part of the effort.

I recall giving a young Teen a good ride in a Hughes 500E out in the Pacific Northwest in the area of Mount St. Helens.

When I asked the Chief Pilot if we could get involved and that I was willing to both donate my time but would also pay for the Helicopter....he quickly told me to quit being stupid and never to bother him asking to do such things again.

Then.....he said "Give him the best ride you can and take as long as you want.....and in the future....don't call....just get on with it."

The Company was very dedicated to community service.

The young fella died within a week of our Fly Day..

If you ever get the chance....take a Child for a flight....you will be the better for it!

Well Done to the folks at Sikorsky who did this flight!

In the US the Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA) has a fabulous program called Young Eagles:

https://www.eaa.org/eaa/youth/free-ye-flights

Free rides for kids 8-17. I try to take part in one or two rallies per year and I am always the only helicopter there.

If you do decide to support the Young Eagles program drop me a PM, there are special procedures for helicopters (for example they waive the shutdown between loads rule) and I can point you to them, or call the coordinator at EAA and ask for them. You do have to join the EAA to participate.
