ADAC helicopter incident Thuringia

ADAC EC 135 tilted backwards after accidentally landing on a Skating Rail yesterday. A piece of sheet metal was damaged at the tail rotor. A 2nd helicopter picked up the injured boy who was hit by a car and transported him to a hospital. The hellicopter is apparently still parked at the scene.

Only in German but some pictures.

Not quite right. As you can see on the pics, the bumper had contact to the ground, so just a bit of damaged composite material. Nothing to be worried about.

Oh dear!

From the photos and google translate it seems that the skids got tangled with a "grind rail" in a skate park. Perhaps it just landed on it and was not tangled.

That looks like a very "stupid" pilot mistake there....

Why stupid? Where you there? It's quite easy to miss a grey rail agains grey asphalt from the air. The smart thing was leaving it there and not pulling it into a rollover.

It is stupid because the pilot should have spotted it...or the medic sitting on the left hand seat.......if the pilot would have carried out a proper landing site inspection (high/low recce) before the landing, he would have spotted it....period.

Itīs a stupid mistake.....claiming that he did not flip it over is stupid, too..

That "Grind rail" would be very difficult to see given its identical in colour to the asphalt, put a few in a car park and open a body repair business nearby.

Hueyracer. I am not sure we are allowed to call each other "Stupid" anymore. It should be a "No blame culture".
Its better to call it an "Unfortunate" incident!

Would have been hard to see in bad lighting or at night , especially if distracted by another hazard close by that the photo didn’t show.
If he was actually trying to use the grind rail I think putting the skids across the rail would have worked better.
