Reminds me of the day I was introduced to Muskrat Dam in Ontario at Crazy Bills outfit. ( Stewart Lake Airways)
We had 400 liters of avgas in leaky drums in the C185 and WhatsHisName started rolling tobacco.
After some intence CRM we agreed he wasnt lighting up.
The Day of the Two Sun never happened.

How shall I put this.......
Brendan is the last of the pioneering showmen...there that wasn't derogatory now was it?
If he isn't doing his Vietnam run in Otto (Hughes 300 with eye lashes), he's landing his cessna puddle jumper onto the back of a moving truck.
A natural helicopter pilot (not many of those, I would suggest), born in the back of one, I suspect. A genius "poler".
But without a doubt an anachronism of modern day helicopter and display flying.
He once told me that in his 40+ years of flying - he had lost 80+ flying colleagues!!
I'm astounded he's still alive to be honest

OK time to fess up
On excerciise at Port Stephens NSW circa 1971
i x Bell 47GB2 (doors off), one mechanic, one driver airframe, troops for the use of.
2 small wooden plank strapped to port front cross beam
Sandwiched between these 4 small blue smokes with string from pins into the cockpit
On stbd stretcher a 5 gallon drum full of sand - buried in it was a LARGE white smoke generator with string into the cockpit
Oh - operating out of a very confined area with fuel drums, uneven ground etc etc.
- what could go wrong??
Departed, flew lazy circuits of the departing medical teams after their annual excercise, pulling the small pins out as each one was finished - constant sreams of blue and white smoke ( Corp colours....)
Well, we thought they were finished ,,,,,
Came back into the pad - al good until we came to the hover - then instant IFR !
The downwash reactivated the LARGE white pot and at 6ft near the drums, could not se a darn thing.
Glimpsed some trees back the way we came in and just pedal turned, sucked it up and went for them.
Luckily left the smoke behind - needless to say there were 2 faces as white as the smoke !
Yep, I learned about flying from that...

Brendan is a tremendous bloke. Loud, irreverent, a joy to spend time with, and a total nut!
He’s been one of the most innovative display pilots for donkeys years, he and Mat Hill as the Red Hawks were always my favourite display act
I dread to think of the the hoops and paperwork for this, because there’s no other way he’d get it through. It looks barking (I wouldn’t want to do it) but I bet it’s judged as very safe by the CAA.
Need to see it for real now, not just YouTube.
Barking! Absolutely barking..............

Amazing display! Am astounded that with Health & Safety legislation etc. it is even allowable/legal to have fireworks on a helicopter!? Not to mention the paperwork involved........
It beggars belief. Brendon has probably told the CAA that he'd like permission to "pop off a couple of flares" during his fly by!!!
Poor CAA don't have a clue what to do or how to understand Brendon.
He'll tie them in knots.
His mantra is: I don't care a jot if I crash and burn but let's keep the crowd safe!
His wife thinks he's a night janitor for the local library.........................

Interestingly we used to have Schmuly flares attached to the side of helicopters before the advent of powerful landing lights. Novel punching one off, but not so much when one doesnt go, what the f... do you do with it when you land
Well the CAA approved these guys AeroSPARX - Aerobatic | Stunts Display Team | Airshow Displays | Unique Events for night, close-formation plus pyros - they are absolutely awesome by the way - so anything can be got through if you try hard enough!

I was in the old airport student bar watching this, it was quite a sight!

Would have been a worthy contender for a Darwin Award if they hadn't survived it!
