The prefect of the Var is quoted as saying it was two Gazelles involved in the accident.
The nearby base is also used to train French and German pilots on the Tigre.

"A French army Gazelle crashed into a power line at Caylus in 2003, killing four people. A similar crash near Draguignan in 1994 killed three people, broadcaster France Info says."
Am I alone in thinking that including unrelated incidents - seriously, what is the similarity to the cause of accident - from 15-24 years ago suggests an incompetent journalist and editor who are trying to stretch the piece by any means possible?
Bad show, BBC, in my opinion

I agree John, a paucity of immediate hard fact ("It is not clear what caused the crash.") so they try to keep the story hot and show they are on the ball with their research...
Very sad - many condolences from the AAC Gazelle fraternity.
The five victims have been named.

Standard written journalism. As the story is written additional facts are added, with decreasing relevance, as filler so that the story can be reprinted into the available size simply by dropping what won’t fit.
