From Ploughman to Air Chief Marshal

In depth podcast with Sir Angus Houston, detailing his family's aviation history and his career path in aviation, including adventures as a SAR pilot.

Sir Angus also speaks of his role in the coordination of the search for MH370 and the recovery of remains of Australians lost in MH17, shot down over Ukraine.

The aerial view: how Angus Houston took to the skies - Conversations - ABC Radio

Yep.

Great show. Long live the ABC.

Angus seems to really be one of the good guys. Puts the politicians he has dealt with to shame.

(The defense ministers that oversaw the Collins class subs and Seasprite fiascos should be jailed.)

And to think Australia only got him (luckily) because the ejection seat in the RAF Jet Provost trainer was in the full up position. If it was full down he would have been selected for the RAF. Talk about a pivotal moment in ones life, for him that must have been it.

But if he had ejected at some stage, he would have likely smashed both legs at the knee on the canopy bow. There were a few tall Aussies who were lucky never to have to use the Martin Baker Departure Lounge.
