Books by Shawn Coyle

Hi,

Thinking of expanding my library a little by adding books by Shawn Coyle.

Does anyone know the difference between "The Art and Science of Flying Helicopters" and "Cyclic and Collective, More Art and Science of Flying Helicopters"?

Is it the first and second edition of the same book or more of a prequel/sequel relationship?

Is it worth buying both, that is?

Thanks!

I own both. I always found that "Cyclic and Collective" is a bit of a superset of the other, much shorter book. Having said this, "the art of flying" for years to me was the primary source of credible no-nonsense information on helicopter flying.
In the words of the author: "The first book concentrates on the basic[s]" using piston helicopters as examples.
"The second book goes into significantly more detail ... and is based around turbine helicopters with hydraulic[s]."
There is a significant overlap between the two books.

You may also wish to consider Coyle's "Little Book of Autorotations."

@Hot and Hi
Thank you for your input. If I understand you correctly, you basically saying that there is no real reason to get both books? The stuff in "The art of flying" is in full covered in "C&C" and "C&C" isn't a real 2nd edition nor a sequel but rather an enhanced new version of "The art"?

I would like to buy "The art" but new ones are rare and expensive and I'm not that found of buying used books...

@EN48
Thanks for the suggestion, I might look at that one too

Thanks for all the kind words. All three readers have now been identified!
Cyclic and Collective has all the material from 'The art and Science', plus 50% more bad jokes and puns.
I'm working ona compilation of all the articles penned over the past 25 years - p to 91 chapters so far. No publication date yet, but standby!

Look at that, two great authors in the awesome field of helicopter flying, within six comments only!

Have a few but good books by you already Phil. Helped me to get my CPL(H) this August. Thanks for that!

And thanks Shawn for the input, best kind when it comes from the source. Then I go for C&C then, and maybe The Little Book.

Thanks again all of you!

/H

Go with Cyclic and Collective. Little Book of Autorotations is really good too. Great job from Shawn, as usual
