Ute vs 412

Oops

Ute collides with helicopter near Warwick

by Molly Glassey
THE Toowoomba RACQ LifeFlight helicopter is a little worse for wear after being hit with a ute outside of Warwick.

The helicopter was tasked to Gap Creek after a man in his 20s was injured in a fall.

Shortly after arrival, an unoccupied ute collided with the tailboom of the Bell 412 helicopter.

Police have suggested the 4x4 utility may have had a faulty handbrake.

The LifeFlight crew were already out of the helicopter and attending to the patient when the collision happened.

No one was injured.

The flight crew immediately inspected the aircraft and deemed it unserviceable for flight.

Senior aircraft engineers will head to Gap Creek today to try and decide how to best recover the helicopter.

A replacement Bell 412 aircraft has been flown from LifeFlight's Archerfield maintenance base to Toowoomba today.

A Queensland ambulance transported the injured rider to Warwick Hospital where they were met by the Brisbane LifeFlight crew and he was airlifted to Toowoomba Hospital in a stable condition.

Stuff happens. Over here a vehicle somehow drove around the fire and police vehicles on a road where an EMS helicopter had landed, and was still running. The vehicle hit the horizontal stabilizer, somehow missing the tail rotor. The pilot felt a bump, and had no clue the vehicle was approaching from the rear. The helicopter wound up being trucked back to its base for repairs. The vehicle driver said he thought the helicopter was flying very low. It was suspected that he had some ethanol in his system.
