Colombian police UH-60 crash (Aug 4) - 18 POB?

An updated report on the tragic loss of a Policía Nacional de Colombia UH-60L earlier this month, which -- it is now believed -- was lost due to CFIT, rather than due to ground fire.

Ill-fated Colombian police helicopter wasn't attacked

One point stands out, though: a Black Hawk with 18 POB (i.e. 16 in the cabin)? Sounds like a cosy arrangement to say the least, esp. if the officers on board -- who were on a drugs raid -- were wearing combat gear and weapons.

(Not a good month for accidents already, with the Lagos S-76 accident, the Mi-28N airshow accident, a Pawan Hans Dauphin fatal, an LACFD Bell 412 hard landing, a SOCOM MH-60M hard landing on an MSC Ro-Ro vessel off the coast of Japan, plus five Mi-8/17s also lost, four described here, killing 35 of those onboard, and another in North Darfur.)

A friend of mine worked down their some years ago helping to support the Blackhawks bought for Columbia by our State Department. His observation was that "they took the seats out to fit more people in" on most missions.
