Victorian grassfires

Numerous stories of helicopters saving scores of homes.

Have a thought for the pilot who fought to protect a mother and two children and a babe in arms who were sheltering in a dam ringed by fire.

I rushed home to find a bit of a front about 800 metres from our property: bottom left of this photo the open paddock runs into our place.

The Helitacks were picking up from just down the road, this is as close as I want to be on the receiving end!

I'm currently at LaTrobe fire base, this will take quite a while to put out; especially the open cut coal mine on fire down here. The fire at my place and the one down here are suspected as being deliberately lit, along with a dozen of the others around the state.

about time some of these arsonists should have a look at the fire from about 500ft with the door open. We offered the trip to one of the police forces after they picked up an arsonist close to the pad. A week of chasing the efforts of the pr1ck gave a really good attitude. Plod thought we were joking......

As can be seen on this link, even the Metro Fire Brigade UAV is on the list.
It is being used down at the open cut mine fire because the firies were succumbing to the CO gas from the fire and the contaminated air on the fire ground.

Not sure if it was affecting the air crew though, only the guys on the ground in the pit.
