Chopper rescues crane operator trapped in massive Kingston, Ont. blaze | CTV News
Awesome job! Not sure what he used for references, but great OGE hover with little or no references....

Well done. From an armchair critics view, I would have thought a different heading to give a good hover reference off the boom of the crane would have made it easier and safer, even if out of wind. Just a thought however, as I don't have any idea of what the wind strength may have been. I'll bet that bloke knows what relief feels like though, good stuff!

Did you listen to the report?! Sorry just cannot see the point of your post!
I quite frankly can not see the purpose of YOUR post? What is your problem, would you have preferred that I did not post about this excellent rescue that saved a man with the use of a helicopter & well trained crew.
The crane operator would surely have died if the rescue helicopter would not have been so quick to the scene. I´m sure this is an interest to all of us that follow Pprune!

Aesir - I think tistisnot is referring to the fact that the fire chief is talking about how to make the crane safe long after the rescue has taken place which, along with the pictures, seems to indicate that the 'crane collapsing' post you read was journalistic license.

The link to CTVNews is continiously updated and on the original link video I posted there was no information about the crane still standing. I was merely wondering if anyone else had seen any reference to the crane collapsing which is has not yet.
I´m sorry for posting a reference to a rescue with helicopter with a positive outcome if it only will attract internet trolls like we see here.

Thanks for posting, Aesir. Nice to see a positive outcome, especially in view of the recent bad press for helicopters in general.

Hi Aesir,
I think tistisnot of course didn't mean your first post, but the post where you mention that you've read that the crane collapsed 3 mins later.
In the very first report it was clearly still standing long after the man was rescued.
Besides that, great post of course.

I like the one part in the link posted by Rotornut. The Ministry of Labour are concerned because he did not put on his safety harness before going out on the boom. to funny.
Some other infractions:
1 did not do a risk analysis
2 did not do a step back 5 X 5
3 did not conduct a tool box talk to go over the risk of going on the boom with no safety harness
Just to name a few I am sure there are many more he neglected to carry out before leaving the crane cab to get away from the heat and smoke.
