Has anybody any further news on the crash mentioned in this article? Helicopter type for example?

Your link refers to an article dated Sep 17 2013. There are also reports of a further UAE helicopter crash (dated Oct 16) leading to the loss of life of a US expat. Not sure if its a mil aircraft or not?

The articles are about the same accident, (I hope!), but The National was a bit behind the times!

Not yet, but what leads you to think it was in Dubai and not one of the other six emirates? That may help tracking it down

The person who first alerted me to the crash believed it to have occurred in Dubai but, as you say, it might have been elsewhere in the UAE.

However, I've been trawling the net for news articles and have now come across an article on Janes.com which suggests this accident occured a month earlier! Quite a few other news sites also refer to September rather than October........!?

UAE helo lost in training accident

Gareth Jennings, London - IHS Jane's Defence Weekly
16 September 2013

A United Arab Emirates (UAE) military helicopter crashed during a training mission on 16 September, killing one crewmember.
The UAE Armed Forces Command announced the loss on 17 September but has released no further details.
All three branches of the UAE Armed Forces operate helicopters. The United Arab Emirates Air Force & Air Defence fields utility and transport types, such as the Boeing CH-47 Chinook and Sikorsky UH-60 Black Hawk; the army operates attack platforms, such as the Boeing AH-64 Apache; and the navy flies anti-submarine and anti-surface vessel warfare types, such as the Eurocopter SA 316A Alouette III and AS 532 Super Puma.

They are separate incidents. The latest happened off the coast of Dubai but was not Dubai based.

The first incident you are referring to is of a military training squirrel, as my very good friend, who is a very good friend of the person in question. The student was killed and he was critically ill in hospital and is recovering now. The second incident with a Us national, as it is not saying it was a military incident, leads me to be believe that it could be horizon training with the 407's, as there are many Us instructors there. But at present I am unable to contact them because no one is coming back to me at present.

Not Horizon, it was an SOC 139 from Abu Dhabi.
