The CAA staff examiners used to have a blanket examiner rating to test on any type, rated or not, but I don't know if that rule has gone with EASA or not.
I'm sure they would tell you if you give one of them a call.

To be fair to the CAA, they recently gave an Exemption to another UK FE to examine me on an Annex II type for which I am otherwise the only UK examiner.
I think you'll find that they will look at each case on its merits.
But their hands ARE tied if it's an EASA type.
