Helicopters using fixed wing parking stands

Looking for some advice from heli professionals on rotary wing parking on fixed wing parking stands. Most airports have dedicated spots for helis, but I am keen to know where in the UK heli operators regularly use aircraft stands.

What safeguards are in place in terms of markings/protection zones in line with ICAO.

Also what approaches do you make to airports? Do you use FATOs or aiming points or just simply follow ATC aiming for the runway?

Any expert advice gratefully received.
