Not quite sure why this video is 'amazing'?

Well shot footage of basic SAR training but nothing more.

751 Sqn are clearly good guys but some decent operational footage without the musical sound track would have better demonstrated their capabilities.

Maybe I am just getting old and not that impressed with presentation over content

The dreadful noise made me switch it off even before any picture appeared.

Nice Video.

But, I just wonder how our Southeuropean friends can afford to operate the finest state of the art equipment, while weīre in Germany flying wih the old crap

Look at the other side... who needs to give the money and who receives it? In european countries, the last 15 years there were a handful of government purchuses that were actually needed, most of them were a need for sale...

Like our Cougars, when talks went down for purchuse of new 412's, Renault threatened to close the Twingo production line. We got Cougars instead of 412's and the production was left open without problems.

Always two sides of a card...

Portugalīs small. Thatīs a fact. But Portugal has the 2nd largest search rescue region in the world (only canadaīs bigger).

The EH-101 (AW101) is not a "nice to have". The Merlinīs range is unique and essential.

@chooper: the initial group went to Yeovil. Now the pilots only go to RAF Benson for Sim training.

Cheers,

Hi Vert,

Thanks for the link, loved the vid.......sun, ray bans and choppers; what's not to like? A good insight for those that know nothing about SAR and very well shot.

Cheers,

Pig

Vert751 - wrong on the size of SAR area - NZ's is the biggest.
But beautiful video - very well shot, and very well edited.

Without getting into a willie waving competition, UnZud Maritime SAR region is ~30 million square kilometres: Australia is 52.8 million square kilometres.

Most online research indicates that Canada is the largest, Portugal is the second largest. Although further research indicates that Canada covers 18 million square k's and I can't find a figure for Portugal's Maritime Region, so no doubt someone will come up with more figures and prove all these to be totally wrong
