Flir versus Boston bomber in a boat
Reports indicate that the airwing couldn't deploy over the car chase and subsequent escape of the bomber at 1 am April 19th due to weather.
Would be good to confirm that, because had they been overhead he wouldn't have escaped and been at large with such terrifying effect on Boston communities.
They asked the chopper to move back when they employed a bullhorn to hail the bomber. This audio from the police scanner paints the picture.

One of yesterday's papers described the American PolAir heli as employing "ground breaking technology" to spy on the boy in the boat -
I guess most Americans are too young to remember a film called Blue Thunder.

What is missing is the IR Laser and Machine Gun Rounds chasing the bouncing ball centered on the boat!
One of the news feeds was talking about a 'heat-seeking helicopter'!!!
The US Civil Rights Movements in many states have a major downer of police airborne cameras [and UAVs] and in particular the ability to see through walls. Some states have major issues with the right to search by IR - even accidental searches have been ruled illegal.
Rubbish perhaps but the MSP images may yet play into the hands of Civil Rights simply because it was demonstrating an ability to see through walls.... in this case a tarp.
It will be interesting to see what balance there will be between the popular ability to capture the Boston Bombers and the political 'needs' of the Rights community.
