MD500E simulator Project

Hi all

This is my first post here so let me start by saying hello
I am currently working on a rather ambitious project, building an MD500e simulator from the cockpit of a Hughes 300, the project is about 80% complete.
I'm looking for the vertical measurement between the cockpit floor and the front window strip that the nose attaché’s too. That's about the last measurement I need.

If anyone can help I would be very gratefull

Cheers

Rhys

Hi
Thanks Hughes500 very much appreciated

Here are some pictures taken sometime ago showing the project in very rough mockup stage.

The sim has changed since then so when I get a chance will take some more snaps.

Here it the instrument face

The project is 4 years in the making but if I can get hold of some parts to finish off hopefully the project can be finished in the next 2 months

Cheers
Rhys

If only I had a spare e model hanging round to casually measure!!!

And what a great forum to get a measurement like that off a member so promptly!!!

Fly safe.

Hi Rhys,

If I understand you properly you want the vertical distance between the cabin floor and the horizontal beam that runs from side to side and separates the upper and lower windshields.

The vertical distance between the floor and the spot where that beam attaches to the doorframe (l/h and r/h) is 58 centimeters in the MD500E.

Good luck with your project!

MD500E simulator Project

Hi all

My all time favourite light Helicopter is the MD500 . Over the last 4 years I have been working on a MD500e Simulator.
I didn’t want to detract from 500 Fans post, 50 years of the 500 so created this one
Here are some images of the project from when it started as a humble but some what sad looking Hughes 300 too it's current state

Cheers

Looking for a MD500e nose piece

Hi all

I am looking for a scrap or old MD500e nose piece for my MD500e simulator as shown in the image.

I realize that most parts are salvaged and reused for airworthy aircraft and its a long shot I know, but if anyone can help or know's someone who could I would be grateful

Regards

Rhys

MD500E simulator Project

Rhys,
So what's your plan for this mockup? Are you going to get a working simulator? Or is it just a static display when finished?
Where are you based?

Owain...

Hi Owain
It’s going to be a full working simulator. I am a full time fire fighter and this is my at home escape project.
The instruments will be displayed on a lcd monitor with a projector displaying the outside visuals.
Using real aircraft parts adds to the Realism and fell of the project.
I'm living in New Zealand

Regards

Rhys,
A full working simulator? Top Man. I would love to have had a go once finished and I was hoping with a name like Rhys you would be in the UK or even Wales. Close enough to me... I fly a 500 (proper job), if your were closer would have offered to help as I have an engineering business here in Wales.

Shame your down under??
Good luck with it and keep posting photos. A bit far for me to come and have a go but who knows one day?

Owain..

I think I should be committed ha ha, for starting such a project. It's those last few items to finish off but hopefully the project will be completed soon
